오늘날, 기술혁신은 기업들이 지속적인 경쟁우위를 확보하거나 생존하기 위해 매우 중요하기때문에, 많은 기업들은 기술혁신을 수행하기 위해 외부 지식을 획득하고 있다. 특히, 공동 R&D는 혁신을 수행하는 과정에서 파트너들의 새로운 지식을 습득하기 위해 많이 사용된다. 본 연구는 제조업 및 서비스업을 대상으로 공동 R&D에 영향을 미치는 선행 요인들을 살펴보았다. 실증 분석을 위해 과학기술정책연구원(STEPI)에서 실시한 2016년 한국기업혁신조사 데이터를 활용하였고, 제조업 1,401개, 서비스업 829개의 기업들을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 제조업에서는 조직혁신이 공동 R&D와 큰 관련이 없었지만, 서비스업에서는 조직혁신을 도입한 기업들이공동 R&D를 수행하는데 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 보호수단 중에서 지식재산권 활용의 경우 제조업과 서비스업 모두에서 공동 R&D를 수행하는데 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났지만, 사내기밀 유지는 오직 서비스업에서 공동 R&D를 수행하는데 긍정적인영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 제조업과 서비스업의 차이에 의해 발생했다고볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 공동 R&D를 수행하는 기업들에게 경영 및 관리적인 측면에서 시사점을 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 기업들이 공동 R&D와 관련된 전략을 수립하는데 활용 가능할 것이다
Today, technological innovation is very important for sustainable competitive advantage orsurvival of firms, and then many firms are acquiring external knowledge to perform technologicalinnovation well. In particular, joint R&D is often used by firms to learn new knowledge of partnersin the innovation process. This study examined the preceding factors affecting joint R&D inmanufacturing and service industries. For empirical analysis, we used the data from Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) in 2016conducted by Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), and analyzed 1,401 manufacturingfirms and 829 service firms. The results showed that in the manufacturing industry, organizationalinnovation was not related to joint R&D, but in the service industry, firms that utilizedorganizational innovation had a positive effect on conducting joint R&D. In addition, usingintellectual property rights among protection mechanisms had a positive effect on joint R&D in bothmanufacturing and service industries, but maintaining confidentiality had a positive effect onconducting joint R&D in the service industry only. These results can be attributed to the differencebetween manufacturing and service industries. This study suggests the managerial implications for firms before conducting joint R&D. Theresults of this study will do much for setting up firms’ strategies for joint R&D in the future.
