이 글은 이만흥 가족들의 증언과 연구자가 조사·확보한 자료 등을 토대로 전북영화사에서 매우 중요한 역할을 담당한 영화인 이만흥의 영화계 활동에 대해 기술하고자 하였다. 이 과정에서 불분명한 채로 남아있는 그의 생애의 일단을 밝혀 잘못된 정보를 바로잡고 그러한 이력과 관련지어 그의 영화계 활동의 불충분한 부분을 보완하고 실증하고자 하였다. 이 글은 부분적이나마 해방기 군산과 1950년대 각 지역에서 활동했던 이만흥의 존재를 확인할 수 있었다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 특히 이만흥 가족들의 증언과 신문 자료를 통해서는 지금까지 알려진 바가 없던 이만흥의 실체와 행적을 발굴함으로써 전북영화사와 한국영화사의 저변과 토대를 확대하는 계기를 마련하였다. 실제로 이만흥의 생애와 영화계 활동에 대한 자세한 기록은 기존의 한국영화사 저작에서 찾아볼 수 없었다. 그동안 이에 대한 기록이 드러나지 않은 것은 중앙 중심의 영화 연구에 비해 지역의 영화 연구가 활성화되지 못했기 때문이라고 판단된다. 이러한 지역의 영화 기록들은 앞으로 한국영화사 연구의 미비점을 보완하기 위한 정보로 활용되어야 할 것이라고 생각한다.
This article is intended to describe the film industry activities of Lee Man-heung, a filmmaker who played a very important role in Jeonbuk film history, based on the testimony of Lee Man-heung’s family and the data I was able to survey and secure. Through my research, I was able correct erroneous information about his life by revealing one part of his life that remained unclear, and I supplement and discuss the missing information about his film activities in the context of his history. This article is meaningful in that it fills in details about the life of Lee Man-heung, who was active in Gunsan during the liberation period, and was active in every region during the 1950s. In particular, through information from Lee Man-heung’s family and several newspaper articles, I discovered the life and activity of Lee Man-heung, who had not been very well known until now, which provides an opportunity to expand the base and foundation of Jeonbuk and Korean film history. In fact, detailed records of Lee Man-heung’s life and film activities were not found in existing Korean film history archives because regional film research has not been active compared to national film research. I think the film records of these regions should be used as information to fill the gaps in Korean film history and supplement the weakness of Korean film history research.
