이 연구는 한국인 교사와 베트남인 교사가 베트남에서 한국어를 가르치면서 겪는 경험에 대해 기술한 것이다. 연구자는 1997년부터 2000년까지 베트남 하노이국립인문사회대학교에서 한국어를 가르친 바 있다. 그때의 베트남 현장은 한국인 교사만으로 한국어를 가르쳤다. 그러나 한국어를 전공한 베트남인 교사가 배출되면서 베트남은 한국인 교사와 베트남인 교사가 같은 현장에서 한국어를 가르치고 있다. 이 연구는 이들이 같은 현장에서 한국어를 가르치면서 어떠한 경험을 하는지를 기술하는 것이 일차적 목표였다. 이러한 연구 목적에 도달하기 위해 한국인 교사와 베트남인 교사들이 들려준 이야기를 활용하는 내러티브 연구 방법을 활용하였다. 이 연구를 통해 베트남인 교사와 한국인 교사 모두는 현장에서 한국어 학습자를 만나는 기쁨을 공유하고 있었다. 이들은 가르치는 현장을 좋아했다. 그러나 한국인 교사는 스스로 주인에서 벗어나 외부인으로 자각하는 시점이 있고, 베트남인 교사들은 한국이 교사를 손님으로 대우한다고 했다. 이러한 인식의 원인은 이들이 한국어 교사를 직업과 봉사 사이의 어디쯤으로 생각하는 것과 다수가 사용하는 베트남어를 모르는 한국인 교사들의 언어 문제가 결정적인 원인으로 보였다. 그럼에도 이들의 이야기를 통해 한국인 교사와 베트남인 교사가 서로가 공생의 관계라는 이해가 공유된다는 점에서 한국어교육이 발전할 수 있을 것이라는 가능성을 감지할 수 있었다. 이 연구는 베트남 현장에서 한국어를 가르치는 두 집단, 즉 한국인 교사와 베트남인 교사의 한국어교육 경험을 통해 이들의 현장을 좀 더 이해할 수 있었다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 찾고 싶다.
This study described what Korean language teachers and Vietnamese teachers experience when they teach Korean in Vietnam. The researcher has taught Korean in Vietnam National University, Hanoi, University of Social Sciences and Humanities from 1997 to 2000. Only Korean teachers taught Korean language at the time but Korean teacher and Vietnamese teacher are teaching Korean language in the same field as Vietnamese teachers who majored in Korean have been produced. The primary objective of this study was to describe what they experience while they teach Korean in the same field. Through this study, it was identified that both Vietnamese teachers and Korean teachers were sharing the pleasure of meeting Korean language learners at the scene. They liked the field of teaching. However, Korean teachers had a viewpoint of perceiving themselves as outsiders and Vietnamese teachers stated that Korea treats teachers as guests. Language problem of Korean teachers who do not know Vietnamese that the majority of people use seemed as a decisive factor, but the inherent limitation of Koreans not residing in Vietnam continuously seems as the likely cause. Nevertheless, they were able to sense the possibility that they can develop through a mutual understanding. The significance of this study is to provide a better understanding of the education field through the Korean language educational experience of the two groups who teach Korean language in Vietnam as Korean teachers and Vietnamese teachers.
