본 연구는 한국교회의 통일 준비와 교육의 현재를 진단하며 기독교 평화 교육의 측면에서 한국교회의 통일 교육의 방향과 가능성을 모색해 보고자 시작되었다. 평화와 통일이라는 단어가 어느 때보다 가깝게 느껴지는 시대가 되었지만, 한편 통일이라는 것이 생각만큼 요원한 일도 아니기 때문에, 통일 교육은 한국교회가 준비해야 할 시급한 사명 중 하나이다. 한국 교회의 통일 교육을 진단하기 위해 통일선교의 역사와 교육의 흐름을 고찰하고, 다양한 기관들의 통일교육 현황을 분석하여 이를 바탕으로 통일에 대한 신학적 토대를 확고히 할 필요가 있다는 점과 대상과 연령에 따른 체계적이며 분명한 교육 커리큘럼의 개발이 필요하다는 부분을 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 대한 대안으로 평화교육을 기반한 기독교 통일교육 방안을 비-인간화(De-humanization)된 개인들의 재-인간화(Re-humanization) 과정을 통해 모색하였다. 재 인간화된 개인들은 하나님과의 수직적인(Vertical) 관계를 기반으로 공동체와 사회 속에서 수평적인(Horizintal) 관계를 만들어 냄으로써 평화를 만들어 낼 수 있기 때문이다. 특히 파울로 프레이리(Paulo Freire)는 의식화(Conscientization)와 프락시스(Praxis)를 통한 교육을 통해 평화 교육이 가능하다고 보았다. 하나님과 화평을 경험한 개인은 평화는 나와는 무관하며 특정한 사람들에 국한된 개념이라는 반(反) 평화적 인식에 대한 각성으로부터 시작하여, 내 앞에 놓인 불의한 현실에 대한 냉철한 분석이 이루게 하는 의식화 과정을 거치게 된다. 이후 현실을 극복할 수 있는 구체적인 행동이 유발되고 다시 현실에 대한 진보된 각성을 가능하게 하는 반성을 통해 프락시스(Praxis)를 실천하는 평화교육이 가능하다는 것이다. 그런 측면에서 기독교 평화교육은 첫째, 기독교가 개인의 구원을 강조하는 공동체적 차원을 포함하는 교육이어야 한다는 것을 전제하며 둘째, 교육의 목표가 단순한 앎의 전달이 아니라 현실에 대한 통찰을 기반으로 통일이라는 변혁을 이루어 내는 실천으로 나가야 한다고 도전한다. 그러므로 ‘교육이 변혁의 수단이 될 수 있다’는 외침은 평화와 통일을 과제로 부여받은 한국교회에게 실제적인 도전과 이를 실행할 지침이 된다.

The purpose of this study was to diagnose the present status of Korean church's preparation for unification and education, and to explore the direction and possibility of Korean church's unification education in terms of Christian peace education. It is a time when the words peace and unification feel closer than ever. At the same time, however, because education for reunification is a mission for the Korean church to prepare. In order to diagnose the unification education of the Korean church, the history of unification mission and the flow of education were examined. The current status of unification education in Korean churches was analyzed. As a result, it was confirmed that the theological basis for unification needs to be firmly established. In addition, it was confirmed that there is an urgent need to develop a systematic and clear education curriculum according to the object and age. The study of Christian unification education through peace education explored the possibility of Christian peace education through the process of re-humanization of de-humanized individuals. Rehumanized individuals can create peace by creating horizontal relationships in community and society based on their vertical relationship with God. Paulo Freire, in particular, saw that this peace education was possible through education through Conscientization and Praxis. The individual who experiences peace with God goes through a conscious process that starts with awakening the anti-peace perception that peace is irrelevant to me and confined to certain people, and that a cold analysis of the unjust reality before me is made. Afterwards, peace education is possible through the process of practicing Praxis through reflection that enables concrete actions to overcome reality and enables advanced awakening to reality. In that sense, Christian peace education presupposes that Christianity should be an education that involves a community dimension beyond emphasizing the salvation of individuals. The goal of education is not just to convey knowledge, but also to practice the transformation of unification. The cry, “Education can be a means of transformation,” is a practical challenge and a guide for the Korean church, given peace and reunification as a challenge.
