이 연구는 교수요목기에 사용된 중등 역사 검정 교과서의 목록을 작성하는 것을 목표로 했다. 이 작업이 중요한 이유는 그동안 이 시기 전체 교과서 목록을 모른 채로 개별 교과서 연구를 수행했기 때문이다. 결과적으로 우리나라 역사 8종, 이웃나라 역사 8종, 먼나라 역사 7종, 우리나라 문화 4종, 인류문화의 발달 3종, 역사부도 3종 등이 발행된 것을 확인하였고, 저자, 출판사, 발행일 정보를 포함한 목록을 작성할 수 있었다. 이 시기 역사 검정 교과서들은 교수요목에 준거하여 발행되었으며, 총 33책의 교과서에 관여한 저자는 24명이었다. 2종 이상을 집필한 저자들도 많았다. 최초의 역사 교과서 검정은 1949년에 있었지만 이후에도 검정이 실행되어 일괄검정이 아닌 수시검정이었다. 출판사정과 한국전쟁 때문에 저자나 출판사가 변경되는 경우가 잦은 것도 이 시기의 특징이었다. 일부 보완할 점이 남았으나 이 연구를 통해서 역사교과서 목록의 공백을 메울 수 있었다. 연구의 결과는 앞으로 개별 역사 교과서 연구를 활성화하는 기초가 될 것이다.
This study intends to compile a list of authorized history textbooks for secondary schools during the period of the ‘Course of Study’. An analysis of the history textbooks in question led to the identification of the types and scale of publications during the period: eight “Korean History” textbooks, eight “Oriental History” textbooks, seven “Occidental History” textbooks, four “Korean Cultural History” textbooks, three "History of Human Culture" textbooks, and three “School History Atlas Resources”. History textbooks during the period were published in accordance with the social studies syllabus. In total, thirty-three textbooks were authored by twenty-four textbook writers. The first review process for the authorization of history textbooks was conducted in 1949, which was followed by a series of review procedures afterward. By creating a systematically compiled list of authorized history textbooks during the period of the ‘Course of Study’, this study will pave the way to further research on the development of history textbooks in Korea.
