이 논문은 『자유의 문』에 나타난 서사구조와 내러티브 욕망의 관계, 자유의 문제, 그리고 이청준의 문학의 정치학이 어떻게 연관되는지 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다.『자유의 문』은 자유를 탐색하기 위해 추리 플롯을 활용한다. 이는 일반적인 추리의 플롯과 달리 단서를 제공하는 백상도의 능동적인 행위가 전제된다는 특이성을 보인다. 주영섭과 백상도는 각자의 욕망을 입증하기 위해서 내러티브를 구성하고 그것을 실천한다. 이들의 내러티브 욕망은 의미 확정과 해체라는 양축을 표상한다. 그렇기에 이들이 내러티브를 통해 도달하려한 자유 역시 동일성의 회복과 탈주선의 창조로 갈라진다. 이러한 면에서 두 인물의 대결은 ‘자유의 문’의 탐색과 함께 내러티브의 문제로까지 확장된다. 백상도는 금욕을 통해 신과의 동일성을 회복할 때 자유가 도래한다고 생각한다. 이를 위해 그는 자기동일성의 회복하여 신의 아들로 군림하는 주체를 확립하고자 한다. 즉 백상도에게 자유는 계율이라는 사유이미지에 부합하게 사는 삶이다. 계율의 우위를 입증하기 위한 ‘백상도’의 내러티브는 사유이미지를 재생하고 그것의 굳건함을 확인하기 위한 도구이다. 반면 주영섭의 소설은 사유이미지를 전복하고 탈주선을 창조하는 기능을 한다. 이는 삶의 잠재성을 제한하는 규칙, 규범에 의문을 제기하여 삶의 해방을 꿈꾸기 위함이다. 이를 위해 소설은 그것이 억압으로 변질되지 않도록 지속적으로 반성해야 한다. 이것은 소설의 운명이자 소설가에게 부여된 의무이다. 이러한 주영섭의 소설관은 이청준의 소설쓰기와 일치한다. 이청준은 삶을 지배하는 힘이나 양식을 무화하고 잠재태들이 솟아오를 수 있는 허구의 정치성에 주목한다. 이는 사유이미지를 전복하고 삶의 자유를 모색하는 주제 차원과 소설을 반성하고 쇄신하려는 소설론 차원 모두에서 나타난다. 경계 너머를 꿈꾸며 그것을 해체하는 것은 이청준이 소설을 통해 펼치고자 한 정치이다.
The intention of this study is to analyze “freedom” founded in the structures, matters, and the view of novel based on the novel “The door of freedom.” This work has detective plot tracing what freedom is. This plot is distinctive than others. Because Baek Sang-do provides clues to tracer cunningly. Baek Sang-do and Ju Yeong-seop made their own narratives to prove their own desires. These narratives present construction and dissolution of meaning. Their stance of freedom, however, is clearly distinct, so this makes the differences of narratives. Beak’s narrative source is ironic. He wants to obey the rule of religion and also break the rule simultaneously. Freedom is the tool for Beak to recover his identity by getting rid of his desire. On the other hand, Ju makes his narrative to solve his desire that traces the truth. He notices the frame that fixes and suppresses the life and he makes question the raison d’être. So he tries to remove it in his works. The author Lee Chung-jun reflects his view of novel through Ju. Lee Chung-jun is cautious about ideology that influenced on our lives. As a writer, in addition, he also considers that novel itself oppresses novel. Collapsing the frame and also creating new ways are the way of politics that Lee pursues in his works.
