본고는 경상방언 인용동사 {카다}의 기원에 대한 새로운 대안을 제시하고 그 발달 양상을 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. {카다}의 기원에 대해 그동안 정설로 여겨진 ‘고 ᄒᆞ다’ 기원설은 음운⋅형태론적으로 타당성이 결여된다. {카다}는 중부방언의 인용동사 ‘그러다’에 대응되고 그 기원은 ‘그럭ᄒᆞ다’일 것으로 판단된다. 그리고 ‘그럭ᄒᆞ다’는 ‘ㆍ’의 변화 방향에 따라 ‘그러카다’와 ‘그러커다’로 분화한다. 그리고 ‘그러카다’는 ‘그러카다>글카다>그카다>ㄱ카다>카다’의 변화를 거쳐 ‘카다’가 형성되었으며 ‘그러커다’도 동일한 변화를 거쳐 ‘커다’가 형성된다. 아울러 ‘쿠다’는 ‘그러커다’의 변화 과정에서 ‘커다>크다>쿠다’의 변화를 경험한 어형이다. 한편 ‘카다’와 ‘커다’는 지리적으로 각각 경북방언과 경남방언에서 주로 실현되며 ‘쿠다’의 개신지는 경남 서부지역이다.
This paper aims to suggest a new alternative to the origin of {kada} as a quotation verb in the Gyeongsang dialect and to examine its aspects of development. The hypothesis about origin of the word {kada}, which has been considered orthodox, is lacking in phonological and morphological validity. {kada} corresponds to the verb "geureoda" in the Jungbu dialect, and I believe that its origin was a "geureokhʌda". And "geureokhʌda" was divided into "geureokada" and "geureokeoda" according to the change of ‘ʌ’. In addition, "geureokada" was changed to "kada" through "geureokada>geulkada>geukada>gkada>kada". And, "geureokeoda" was changed into "keoda" through the same process. In addition, "kuda" went through "keoda>keuda>kuda". By the way, "kada" and "keoda" are mainly used in the Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam dialects, respectively. And innovative area of "kuda" is western Gyeongnam dialect.
