본 연구는 안토니우스와 파코미우스의 삶에서 정치적 요소들을 분석해 초기 수도원 운동에 있어서 어떤 의미를 지니는지 해석을 시도하고, 기독교 영성에 있어서 정치적 요소의 중요성을 고찰한다. 본문 제1장은 『안토니의 생애』속 정치적 요소를 해석하고 저자인 아타나시우스의 삶에 발견되는 정치적 요인과의 관계 밝힌다. 제2장은 파코미우스와 그의 수도원 연합과 관련된 정치적 요소를 찾아 해석을 시도한다. 제3장은 아타나시우스와 파코미우스 수도원 연합의 관계에 대해 분석한다. 결론에서는 안토니우스와 파코미우스의 삶에서 발견되는 정치적 동기가 수도원 운동에 대해 갖는 의미를 논하고, 정치적 동기를 논하는 것이 기독교 영성에 있어서 어떤 함의가 있는지 고찰한다. 본 연구는 기독교 영성은 정치와 상호작용하며, 영성 형성을 포함한 기독교 형성에 정치적 형성이 포함되어야 한다고 주장한다.
This study finds political themes in the life of St. Anthony and St. Pachomius and interprets the meanings of the political themes in the monastic movement. The first chapter studies “Life of Anthony” and its writer Athanasius and analyzes the political elements in the life of Anthony and Athanasius. The second part of the study explores the life of Pachomius and his monastic federation and examines the political motives in it. The third part analyzes the relationship between Athanasius and the Pachomian federation. In the last chapter, the study discusses the meaning of the political motives in the monastic movement and Christian spirituality. The thesis of this study is that Christian spirituality interacts with politics and that political formation needs to be considered as a part of Christian formation and spiritual formation.
