울산 신암리･함경북도 청진 농포동의 여인상, 울산 반구대 천전리 암각화의 여성의 다산을 상징하는 마름모 문양에서 한국의 신석기 여성숭배 문화가 발굴된 이래, 한국의 여신은 무신도를 통해 살펴볼 수 있다. 무신도는 무속신앙에서 섬기고 있는 신의 형상을 그림으로 표현한 것이다. 샤머니즘박물관 무신도의 신격 총 50 종류 중 43분(86%)의 무신이 남신이었으며, 여신은 선녀/팔선녀, 호구아씨, 용태부인, 바리공주, 명성왕후, 신덕왕후, 불사/대신할머니로 전체 무신도의 종류 중 14%를 차지하였다. 이는 여신이 청동기 이래 가부장체제가 확산되면서 남신에게 그 권능을 빼앗기거나 신성결혼에 의해 종속되어 갔으며, 별다른 기능을 맡지 않거나 부정적인 기능을 맡은 존재로 전락되기도 한 사실을 나타낸다. 이에 본 연구에서는 샤머니즘박물관 소장 여신 무신도를 연구대상으로, 가부장적 관념 이전의 자연신･여성거인신, 가부장적 관념 이후의 시련의 통과의례를 거친 여신･부정적 이미지화한 여신･축소된 여신의 계보로 분류하여, 가부장적 관념 하에서 무속의 여신들의 변모양상을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 연구는 기존의 학계에서 크게 주목을 받지 못했던 무신도의 여신을 가부장적 관념의 영향관계 속에서 살펴봄으로써 무속의 중심부에서 밀려난 여신들을 이해하는데 도움이 될 것으로 생각된다.
Mariolatrous culture in Korean neolithic era can be proved by female figurines in Sinsamri of Ulsan and Nongpodong of Chengjin and a lozenge pattern in Bangudae Cheonjeon-ri Petroglyph Rock of Ulsan, which signifies the female fecundity. And then, Korean goddess are shown in paintings of shaman gods. Paintings of shaman gods are an iconographical representation of gods in Korean shamanism. Research subject of this study is 1,038 paintings of shaman gods in the museum of shamanism, which were used by shamans in Seoul. The purpose of this study is to examine the origin of Korean goddess and their changes under male-centered system, using paintings of the museum of shamanism. Among those in the museum of shamanism, the gods are 86% and the goddesses such as Taoist fairy/8 Taoist fairies, Hoguasi(a smallpox goddess), a wife of the sea god, princess Bari, Empress Myeongseong, Empress Shinduk, grandmother Bulsa/Daesin are 14%. This shows that goddess have been lost their powers by the gods, have been subordinated to the god by sacred marriage and have been disappeared or evil since the Bronze Age when a paternalistic system was constructed. Therefore, this paper will consider the prototype and changes of Korean goddess under a paternalistic system, categorizing paintings of shaman goddesses into a nature goddess, a giant goddess, a goddess held the testing initiation, a devilish goddess and a family tree of goddesses. This study might be helpful for highlighting Korean goddesses and understanding their change.
