The Compilation Background and Composition of the Travel Journal, 『Seohaengrok』 in the late Joseon Dynasty

본고는 고흥 여산송씨 가문에서 소장하고 있는 『서행록』의 체제와 내용을 소개하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 『서행록』은 18~19세기 송정악, 송지행, 송석년 3대가 쓴 기행일기이다. 『서행록』은 여산송씨 후손들에게 가문의식을 고취시키고, 『송씨충효록』, 『서재실기』 등 여산송씨 문중에서 간행된 자료의 신뢰성을 확보하기 위해 편찬되었다. 뿐만 아니라 중앙 관료로 출사하기 어려운 18세기 이후에 송간, 송대립, 송심 등 선조들의 충절을 강조함으로써 향반으로서 위상을 드러낼 수 있었다. 『서행록』 권 1과 권 2는 권 3의 저자인 송석년이 등사하여 완성하였고, 권 3 송석년의 일기는 후손 송동기가 등사하여 정리하였다. 일기는 100여 년 동안의 기록을 하루도 빠짐없이 기록한 것이 아니라 여행기간 동안만 정리되었다. 선조의 현양과 관련된 업무를 주로 기록하였고, 특별한 여행 목적이 있을 경우에는 별도로 일기 제목을 부기하였다. 『서행록』을 통해 여산송씨 가문의 선조 현양, 고흥에서 서울까지 이동하는 다양한 교통로, 고흥 여산송씨 가문의 인적 네트워크 등을 확인할 수 있다. 이외에도 왜란ㆍ호란과 관련된 전장지 탐방, 금강산ㆍ묘향산 유람기, 과거와 관련된 생생한 모습을 수록하고 있다. 고흥 여산송씨 가문과 관련된 다양한 자료들과 연계하여 향후 『서행록』에 대한 연구가 진척된다면, 조선후기 호남지역 향반의 모습을 풍부하게 만들어 줄 수 있을 것이다.

This study is purposed to introduce the system and contents of the book, 『Seohaengrok』 housed by the Yeasan Song Family of Goheung. 『Seohaengrok』 is a travel journal written by three generations of Song Jeong-ak, Song Ji-haeng, and Song Seok-nyeon in the 18th~19th century. 『Seohaengrok』 was compiled to inspire the descendants of the Yeasan Song Family and to secure the credibility of the materials published in the Yeasan Song Family such as 『Songsichoonghyorok(宋氏忠孝錄)』 and 『Seojaesilgi(西齋實記)』. In addition, after the 18th century when it was hard to enter as a central bureaucrat, the journal reveals the status as the Hyangban by emphasizing the loyalty of their ancestors such as Song Gan, Song Dae-rib and Song Shim. 『Seohaengrok』 Volume 1 and 2 were transcribed by Song Seok-nyeon who wrote Volume 3, and the journal, volume 3 was compiled by his descendant, Song Dong-gi’s transcribing. The travel journal is not an everyday diary for 100 years, but was recorded only during traveling for around 100 years. It mostly shows the affairs related to exaltation of ancestors, and there are additional titles of the journals for any special purposes of travels Through 『Seohaengrok』, this study reviewed what efforts Yeosan Song Family made to sustain as Yangban in Hyangchon society named Goheung and found various transportation routes from Goheung to Seoul, and human network of the Yeosan Song Family. In addition, "Seohaengrok" shows the historical sites related to Admiral Yi Sun-shin, visits to battlegrounds related to Imjin Waeran and Byeongjahoran, travel to Mt Geumgangsan and Myohyangsan, and vivid descriptions related to Gwageo. If future researches on 『Seohaengrok』 are progressed in conjunction with various materials related to the Yeosan Song Family, it will be helpful to enrich the shape of Hyangban of Honam area in the late Joseon period.
