The Ethics of Cooperation and Reciprocity: Beyond the tragedy of the commons toward the economic community of the cooperation and reciprocity

본 소고에서는 자본주의 경제체제 하에서 극심한 경쟁으로 인해 만연된 이기 주의적 현실을 극복하는 하나의 대안으로서 협력과 호혜에 기반을 둔 이타주의적 경제운동의 이론적 토대를 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 이기주의를 합리화 하는 유전자결정론과 인클로저 운동을 비판하고 공유지의 비극과 죄수의 딜레마 를 극복하기 위해 대안으로서 협력과 호혜가 지닌 도덕적 가치의 탁월성을 환기 시키고자 한다. 협력과 호혜의 윤리가 부각되는 이유는 현 시대가 직면한 위기 상황과도 맞물려 있기 때문이다. 공유지의 비극으로 비유되는 기후변화와 지구 온난화, 자원 고갈이나 군비경쟁으로 인한 핵 확산, 난민 문제 등과 같은 국제적 인 이해관계가 얽힌 문제들은 해결하기가 쉽지 않다. 독립적이고 이기적인 국가 들 사이에서 조정하기가 쉽지 않고, 집단적 이기주의가 작동하게 되면 무정부 상태가 되거나 죄수의 딜레마로 빠져들어 갈등과 혼란만 가중시킬 수도 있기 때 문이다. 최근 사회적 기업, 협동조합, 사회적 협동조합 등과 같은 공존과 협력, 호혜의 가치를 구현하려는 사회적 경제 운동이 새롭게 조명되고 있다. 이러한 사회적 경제운동들은 호혜와 협력을 바탕으로 이타적 성향을 강화시키고 장려하 는 경제운동이며 창의력과 상상력, 그리고 열정과 개척정신에 기반을 둔 실천적 인 경제 운동이다. 따라서 교회는 이러한 사회적 경제운동에 적극 참여할 필요가 있다.

This study demonstrates that the ethics of cooperation and reciprocity are the best solution as the altruistic economic movement, even though the egoism is partially rampant in society with extreme competitions under the capitalistic economic system. For this goal, this research delves into the excellency of the cooperation and reciprocity as the alternative solution for the tragedy of the commons and the prisoner’s dilemma. The ethics of cooperation and reciprocity are magnified, because that is deeply related with the crisis of this era. Nowadays humankind are facing with many complex and difficult problems, such as climate change, global warming, the fear of nuclear war, exhaustion of resources, poverty and starvation compared to tragedy of the commons. If collective egoism works, these problems would become more complicated in state of anarchy or degrading to the prisoner’s dilemma. Also, this study explores the alternative economic movements on the basis of the creativity, imagination, enthusiasm, and pioneer spirit. Lastly, it suggests that church needs to participate in the social economic movement positively.
