본 연구에서는 축제성과가 지역주민의 삶의 질에 어떠한 영향을 미치며, 이러한 지역주민의 삶의 질 향상이 지역발전에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대하여 규명하여 다음과 같은 연구결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 지역주민이 지각하는 축제성과의 하위요인인 경제적 성과와 사회문화적성과는 삶의 질에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가설은 모두 지지되었다. 둘째, 지역주민이 지각하는 축제성과의 하위요인인 경제적 성과와 사회문화적 성과는 지역발전의 하위요인인 경제적 발전, 관광적 발전 및 사회문화적 발전에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미친다는 가설은 모두 지지되었다. 셋째, 지역주민의 삶의 질은 지역발전의 하위요인인 경제적 발전, 관광적 발전 및 사회문화적 발전에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미친다는 가설은 모두 지지되었다. 따라서 축제의 성공적인 개최성과로 지역주민의 삶의 질 제고를 위하여 진주 개천예술제의 축제조직위원회 및 주관 지방자치단체에서는 성공적인 축제의 마케팅 성과를 위하여 노력을 해야 할 것이다. 또한 후 진주 개천예술제가 성공적이고 지속가능한 축제가 되기 위하여 축제의 콘텐츠, 프로그램, 축제내용, 특산품, 방문객의 욕구 및 기대 등을 충족시킬 수 있도록 축제의 소프트웨어적인 요소들을 지속적으로 개발하고 보완해야 하며, 편의시설, 안내시설, 수유실, 장애인 시설 등과 같은 하드웨어적인 부분들과 함께 조화를 이루기 위하여 축제의 기획, 운영 및 재정적ㆍ행정적 지원을 강화시켜 나가야 할 것이다. 마지막으로 진주 개천예술제 축제관계자 및 지방자치단체에서는 성공적인 축제의 개최로 인하여 지역주민의 삶의 질을 향상시키며, 진주지역이 함께 동반성장할 수 있는 축제를 기획 및 개최할 수 있어야 할 것이다.
This study aims to find out how festival performance affects the quality of life of local residents and how festivals contribute to regional development by improving the quality of life. The study results are as follows. First, the hypothesis that economic performance and social and cultural performance, which are the sub-factors of the festival performance perceived by local residents, would have a positive effect on the quality of life was all supported. Second, the hypothesis that economic performance and social and cultural performance, the sub-factors of the festival performance perceived by local residents, have a positive effect on the economic development, tourism development, and social and cultural development, which are the sub-factors of regional development, was all supported. Third, the hypothesis that the quality of life of local residents has a significant positive effect on economic development, tourism development, and social and cultural development, the sub-factors of regional development, was all supported. Therefore, the officials of the Gaecheon Art Festival and the local governments should improve the quality of life of local residents through a successful hosting of the festival, and further, plan and hold a festival that brings the mutual growth of Jinju region.
