역사는 기록에 대한 선택과 기록자의 해석 결과물이다. 그래서 기록자가 염두에 두고 목적을 둔 암시적 독자층에 따라 관점과 그 결과가 달라진다. 요세푸스의 자료도 그러한 점을 벗어나지 못한다. 이러한 한계는 사두개파에 관해 설명하는 요세푸스의 자료에서 나타나는 논리의 충돌이나모순이 증명한다. 분명 요세푸스의 설명은 매우 해석자의 관점이 강하고어설프며 때때로 모순이 있다. 예를 들어 요세푸스는 대제사장 아나니아가 부자인 동시에 대중에게 존경받고 사랑받는 사두개파였다고 한다. 어떻게 착취자가 착취 대상에게 존경받고 사랑받을 수 있는가? 이는 요세푸스의 의도가 담겨 있다. 요세푸스는 사두개파의 대표적 인물이자 역사적으로 부유했던 그의 재력을 탐욕의 결과로 재해석함으로써 그가 받는 명예나 존경을 위선과 거짓된 것으로 그 의미를 바꾼다. 이러한 의도는 무엇일까? 이는 곧 사두개파는 거짓된 존경을 받고 뇌물을 수수하며 실상은같은 민족을 착취하며 죽게 만드는 위선자이자 살인자로 이해되어야 한다고 주장하기 위함이다. 따라서 이 논문은 요세푸스의 자료를 통해 사두개파를 비판적으로 연구하여 그의 자료 안에 감춰진 심층의미를 해석하고이를 통해 좀 더 사실적인 차원에서 사두개파의 기원부터 멸망까지 재구성하는 것에 의의를 둔다.
History is the result of choice and the interpretation of the record, and the perspective of the author also changes depending on the implied reader, the writer has in mind. Josephus’ material is not an exception. The writings of Josephus explain the political role of the Sadducees during the ruling period of Hasmonian family, and how their beliefs differ from the Pharisees and the Essenes. However, Josephus’ explanation about Sadducees seems to have some contradictions. Josephus, for example, says that the high priest Ananias, rich and bribes, was a loved Sadducee by the public. How can this exploiter can be respected and loved by exploited people? What could be the intention of Josephus? Josephus redefined his reputation as a result of greed. Josephus asserts that the Sadducees should be regarded as hypocrites receiving false respect. In fact, Sadducees with the example of Ananias, the representative of the Sadducees, are exploiters causing the Jewish nation to be destroyed. Therefore, this paper tries to study Josephus presentation on Sadducees from their origin to the destruction, and find the deeper meaning hidden in his writings in a more pragmatic dimension.
