1930년대 개인야담집은 야담이 대중적 인기를 얻고 유명 야담가가 등장하면서 출판사의 상업적 목적이 맞물려 발간되었다. 윤백남의 『승방미인』과 『우연의 기적』, 김동인의 『김동인야담집』, 신정언의 『화랑의 정열』과 『신정언명야담집』이 그것이다. 『승방미인』과 『우연의 기적』은 야담의 범주가 넓고, 대중의 감성에 기댄 오락적 성격이 강한 야담집이다. 『김동인야담집』은 조선시대 왕권을 둘러싼 권력투쟁을 그린 사화로 역사적 성격이 강하다. 『화랑의 정열』은 삼국시대에 남녀의 사랑 이야기에 집중해 오락적 성격이, 『신정언명야담집』은 조선 중기까지 왕조의 성세와 사화(士禍)를 연대기로 기술하여 역사적 성격이 강하다. 1930년대 개인야담집은 조선 후기의 야담집 문화를 근대에 계승하고 이후에 무수히 발간되는 야담집의 발판이 되었다. 야담에 대한 대중의 인식을 제고하고, 야담가의 위상 확립에도 일조했다. 다양한 성격의 야담집이 발간됨으로써 근대 야담사를 풍요롭게 했다.
In the 1930s, individual yadam books were published in conjunction with the commercial purpose of publishers as yadam gained popularity and famous historical storytellers emerged. They were 『A beauty of monk's room(僧房美人)』, 『A miracle of coincidence(偶然의 奇蹟)』 written by Yoon Baek-Nam, 『Kim dong-In's Yadam books(金東仁野談集)』 written by Kim Dong-In, and 『Ardor of Hwarang』, 『Shin Jeong-Eon's Yadam books(申鼎言名野談集)』 written by Shin Jeong-Eon. 『A beauty of monk's room』 and 『A miracle of coincidence』 have a wide range of yadam category, and they are yadam books with a strong sense of entertainment that relies on the public's sentiment. Kim Dong-in's yadam books are a massacre of scholars depicting a power struggle over the royal authority of the Joseon Dynasty and has a strong historical character. 『Ardor of Hwarang』 is mainly for amusement by focusing on love stories between men and women in the Three Kingdoms Period. And 『Shin Jeong-Eon's Yadam books』 has a strong historical character as it chronicles the glorious age and the massacre of scholars of the dynasty until the mid-Joseon period. In the 1930s, the individual yadam books inherited the culture of yadam books from the late Joseon Dynasty and became the foundation for numerous later yadam books. And it has raised public awareness of yadam and also helped establish historical storyteller's status. First of all, the publication of yadam books of various characters enriched modern yadam history.
