이 논문은 공군의 하부조직에서 기술 전문직의 역할을 담당하는 여부사관들의 몸 체험을 중심으로 여군들의 행위성을 살펴보고자 하였다. <항공과학고>의 군사학 시간과 6 주간의 <부사관 교육대대>라는 군인화 공간에서 여군들은 낙오와 열외에 대한 불안감과함께 자신들을 결여된 존재로 경험하고, 높은 성과 압력으로 수동적인 여성화 방식이나적극적인 남성성 모방을 통해 생존을 모색한다. 임관 후 여부사관은 공군에서 항공기 정비에 알맞은 섬세한 손길을 지닌 ‘작은 체구’로 재현되는데 실제 업무 현장에서 여군들은몸의 한계를 느낀다. 업무수행이 미흡한 여군은 남군 수행능력의 1/2에 해당하는 존재로평가받고 이러한 평가는 주로 여군의 존재를 탐탁지 않게 여기는 4-50대 남군들에 의해이루어진다. 반면에 <학교> 시절을 공유한 남군 부사관들은 여군의 수행능력을 여군 개개인의 능력과 성과로 평가하는데 이는 신자유주의 체제 아래 ‘개별화된 개인’으로 성장한 이들의 동질성을 반영한다. 이렇게 군인화가 진행되는 시공간의 경험을 통해 ‘개별적존재’로 인정받기 원하는 여부사관들은 군의 젠더 규범에 종속되는 존재가 아니라 다양한 형태로 미시적 저항이나 하위정치의 방식을 택하는 아고니즘 정치의 가능성을 보여주는 새로운 주체라고 할 수 있다.
This article studied the body experience of female non-commissioned officers (NCOs) who take on a role as technicians in the South Korea Air Force. In military science classes at Air Force Aviation Science High School and a 6-week training at the NCOs Training Squadron, female soldiers perceive their existence as inferior soldiers with the anxiety of falling behind and exclusion. This article argues that they adopted survival tactics by doing gender or imitating masculinity under high-performance pressure. After their appointment as female NCOs, they experience physical limitations on their worksite and are reduced to a ‘small body’ with delicate hands suitable for aircraft maintenance. Female soldiers with poor performance are evaluated to be possessed only half the ability of their male counterparts, with these appraisals done mainly by middle-aged male supervisors. On the contrary, their male NCO classmates tend to recognize these female soldiers’ ability and performance without prejudice. The latter reflects the homogeneity of this generation who grew up as individual male and female under similar neo-liberal mindset. By experiencing this training process, female NCOs seek to be recognized as an 'individual existence' but not to be subordinated to gender norms. They attempt to construct themselves as new subjects which show the potential of agonistic politics employing various forms of the microscopic model of resistance and sub-politics.
