The purpose of this study was to examine the research trends on storytelling education for young children in Korea. It analyzed theses, dissertations, and articles published in Korea from 2009 to 2018 focusing on the research methods, themes, and outcomes. Among the papers to be analyzed, the experimental study also investigated the type of activity, application effectiveness, story source, and utilization medium. The results are as follows. First, it was found that 2014 was pivotal for the increase in the number and diversification of such research. Second, as for research method, quantitative study was the most popular research type, primarily through experimental research. The most frequent research targets were young children, five years old. Third, the largest number of papers focused on the themes of the educational effects of storytelling on young children and the development of storytelling programs. Fourth, storytelling has been used mostly in circle time and math activity. Most of the studies analyzed the application effectiveness in terms of cognitive and affective domains of young children. As for the type of story origins, a created story by researcher was mostly used, and pictorial and PPT data were also frequently used as medium. Finally, the outcomes of the studies were described in accordance with the category investigated, and then discussions on limitations and suggestions for future studies were also described.
