이 연구는 예비 국어교사를 대상으로 교과 논술 과제 설계를 뒷받침하는 4회의 교육 프로그램을 제공하고, 여기에서 산출된 자료에 대해 반복적인 질적 코딩을 적용함으로써 ‘담화 행위에 기반한 학습(learning from texts)’을 뒷받침하기 위한 대표적인 자료원으로서 교과서 텍스트 선택의 체험을 분석하였다. 브릿과 루엣(Britt&Rouet, 2012)이 제안한 다문서 모형의 구성 요소와 각각으로부터 연결되는 인지적 처리의 범주에 따라 주요 연구 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교과서 텍스트는 학습자에게 적합한 텍스트 속성을 지니고 있으나, 도전적이지 않거나 충분양 양의 지식을 전달하지 못하는 자료로 인식되기도 하였다. 둘째, 교과서 텍스트는 교육적 맥락에 적합한 신뢰롭고 권위 있는 출처를 기반으로 삼고 있기는 하나, 사회적 패러다임과 교육과정의 제약으로 말미암아 공정하지 못한 자료로 규정될 수 있음이 지적되었다. 셋째, 교과서 텍스트는 상이한 관점과 층위의 자료를 두루 제공하는 다문서 문식 활동의 기본 요건을 충족하고 있기는 하나, 교과 논술 과제가 궁극적으로 지향하는 내용 지식의 심층적 이해를 도모하기 위해서는 이를 넘어선 보다 다양한 범위의 자료원이 함께 선택될 필요가 있음이 지적되고 있었다.
This study analyzed the selection of textbook reading materials in a essay writing task design of pre-service Korean language teachers by applying a constant qualitative data analysis. The lived experiences of 24 participants were collected by implementing 4 times of educational programs for designing an essay writing task. The collected data were analyzed according to the categories of content information, source information, and intertext predicate, which are components of the documents model (Britt & Rouet, 2012); these categories correspond to information processing, information management, and self-regulatory processing, respectively. The main results were as follows. First, textbook reading materials have been recognized as materials that have textual features that are suitable for learners, but are not challenging and do not convey sufficient information. Second, textbook reading materials are disciplinary-appropriate based on reliable and authoritative sources, but they are perceived as unfair materials because of social paradigm and curriculum constraints. Third, textbook reading materials were perceived to satisfy the basic requirements of multiple documents literacy, which provide diverse data of different viewpoints and levels; however, it has been pointed out that a broader range of sources needs to be selected together in order to achieve the deep comprehension that essay writing tasks ultimately aim for.
