누정은 처음에 국가적 필요에 의해 지어졌고, 왕실과 귀족 같은 부유층의 산물이었다. 그러나 16세기 사림의 형성에 따라 지역 은거처로 유행하게 되었다. 사림들은 자신의 거처에 누정을 짓고 경관 감상과 유흥을 비롯하여 강학(講學), 계회(契會), 시회(詩會) 등을 통한 지역 사대부들의 교유공간으로 활용하였다. 호남에는 식영정, 송강정, 면앙정, 소쇄원 등에서 사림들이 정치적 좌절을 달래며 ‘위민(爲民)’과 ‘지조’의 절조를 유지하였다. 영사정(永思亭)은 기묘사림(己卯士林)과 각별한 선친(안처순)의 묘를 바라보기 위해 효자 안전이 지은 누정으로 호남의 대표적인 도학자 김인후가 작명하여 더욱 유명해졌다. 사제당 가문은 안향의 후손으로 남원지역에서 효를 실천하는 가문으로 인정받았으며, 영사정은 사제당과 함께 호남 사림이 교유하며 효친의식을 고양시킨 곳으로 유명하다. 영사정은 호남누정문화에 효친의식을 추가시킨 의의가 있다.


Pavilions were originally built to meet a national need and then enjoyed by the rich including the royal family and noblemen. Entering the 16th century, however, they went in vogue as a local retreat according to the formation of Sarim. People built an pavilion in their home and utilized it as a place of social intercourse including pursuit of study, private fund meetings, and poetry clubs as well as landscape appreciation and entertainment. In Honam, Sarim members comforted themselves after political frustrations and maintained their integrity of “service for people” and “fidelity” at Sikyeongjeong, Songgangjeong, Myeonangjeong, and Sosoaewon. Yeongsajeong was an pavilion built by Ahn Jeon, who was a devoted son, to look at the grave of his father(Ahn Cheo-sun) that had particular relations with the Gimyo Sarim. The pavilion became even more famous for its name given by Kim In-hu, one of Honam’s greatest moralists. The Sajedang family included descendents of Ahn Hyang and was recognized as a family to practice filial duties in the Namwon area. Yeongsajeong is famous as a place where the Sarim of Honam shared friendship with one another and uplifted their filial consciousness along with Sajedang. Yeongsajeong holds its significance of adding filial consciousness to the pavilion culture of Honam.
