본 연구는 칼 라너(Karl Rahner)가 규명하는 자유의 정체를 상술하기 위해, 그가 채택한 신학 방법을 되짚어보는 데 주된 목적을 둔다. 라너가 전개한 자유의 신학은, 그 진술과 해명의 방식에 있어서 그가 채택하고 있는 주된 종교철학적 방법들을 제한적으로 드러내고 있다. 그는 사람의 자유가 담지하고 있는 실존적 유한성과 선험성을 확연하게 보여주기 위해, 아리스토텔레스(Aristotle)와 아퀴나스(Thomas Aquinas)의 존재론적 통찰, 칸트(Immanuel Kant)의 선험성과 실천적 자유에 대한 비판적 반성, 하이데거(Martin Heidegger)의 이해-해석 논의를 자신의 고유한 신학적 기획에 따라 과감하게 재구성한다. 본고의 논의는 상기 나열된 라너의 종교철학적 방법을 다양한 텍스트 안에서 확인하고, 이런 사유방식이 어떻게 신앙의 자유를 사람의 근원적인 실존적 자유로 입증해 내는지 고찰하는 방식으로 진행된다. 이로써 본 연구는 라너의 자유의 신학이, 실존의 근원적 지평에서 초월의 경험을 통해 확증되는 자유의 자율을 보장하고, 이를 통해 교회 내부만 아니라 인류 전체에게 개방된 신의 존재적 은총을 확신시키는 데 기여한다는 사실을 부각시킨다.
For a detailed account of Karl Rahner’s theology of freedom, the present research mainly aims at investigating the theological method of Rahner’s argument on human freedom. His description and elucidation of human freedom are somewhat vague with regard to the transcendental method that he adopts. Rahner radically reconstructs the ontological insights of Aristotle and Aquinas, the critical reflection on human transcendentality and practical freedom of Kant, and the understanding- interpretation argument of Heidegger, in order to reveal the existentiell finitude and transcendentality of human freedom. The current research proceeds from a brief methodological inquiry into Rahner’s theology of freedom, and then to an in-depth investigation of the role of his philosophical method in confirming the freedom of faith as the fundamental existentiell freedom of human beings. By doing so, this research highlights the fact that Rahner’s theology of freedom protects the autonomy of freedom, which is confirmed by the experience of transcendence within the fundamental horizon of human existence, and that Rahner’s elucidation of religious and existentiell freedom contributes to the assurance of God’s grace not only toward the church, but also toward the entire human race.
