The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of internal control on the relationship between adolescents’ perceived wealth and their mothers’ negative parenting attitudes and school maladjustment. The subjects of the study were 220 middle school students in D city. The data analysis method used was t-test, Pearson’s simple correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 21.0. The results were as follows: First, we found a correlation between the adolescents’ perceived wealth and their mothers’ negative parenting attitudes, school maladjustment, and internal control; second, we confirmed the moderating effect of internal control in the relationship between the adolescents’ perceived wealth and their mothers’ negative parenting attitudes and school maladjustment. These results suggest that adolescents need an appropriate counseling program to improve their internal control in order to prevent school maladjustment due to negative parenting attitudes. Finally, as this study was conducted on middle school students in D city, the results are limited in generalization to the wider population. Therefore, further research is needed to overcome these limitations.
