이 글의 목적은 아도르노의 변증법적 사회이론의 비판적 재구성과 그의 변증법적 사회이론의 기획이 성공적이었는지를 검토하는 데 있다. 변증법적 사회이론의 목적은 사회의 총체적 인식과 사회해방에 있다. 변증법적 사회이론은 방법론의 신화에 빠진 경험 사회학의 협소화를 비판하며 변증법적 사유에 근거한 부정적 사회인식의 태도와 활동을 의미하는 철학적 사회인식론을 자처한다. 아도르노는 실증주의적 사회학으로는 사회인식이 불가능함을 지적하며 총체적 연관체계에서의 해석, 객체로서의 사회우위, 짜임 관계적 인식 태도, 변증법적 사유, 사회학과 철학의 경계해체, 사회학의 철학화 및 이론에 근거한 실증주의 방법론과 질적 연구의 결합 등을 통해 사회인식이 가능함을 밝힌다. 아도르노가 변증법적 사회이론의 과제로 제시한 사회적, 경제적, 인간학적, 방법론적 차원은 자기 이념의 충실성으로 인해 구체성의 사유를 보여주지 못하는 한계를 드러낸다. 변증법적 사회이론의 기획과 이론적 토대를 실증주의 사회학에 대한 비판과 동일시한 점과 사회의 이념으로서 자유를 제지하면서도 정작 ‘사회적인 것의 탐색과 복원’을 시도하지 않는다는 점에서 아도르노의 기획은 미완의 기획이라 평가할 수 있다.
The purpose of this article is to critically reconstruct the structure of Adorno's dialectical social theory and to examine whether it was a successful project. The purpose of dialectical social theory is the purpose of total social recognition and social liberation. Dialectical social theory criticizes the narrowing of experience sociology that falls into the myth of methodology, and seeks philosophical social epistemology which means attitude and activity of negative social recognition based on dialectical reason. Adorno points out that social recognition is impossible with positivistic sociology, and reveal the possibility of social recognition through interpretation in the overall association system, social superiority as object, configuration awareness attitude, negative dialectical reason, demolition of boundary of sociology and philosophy, the philosophizing of sociology, the combination of qualitative research and empirical methodology based on theory. The social, economic, anthropological, and methodological dimensions that Adorno presented as a task of dialectical social theory reveal the limitation of showing the reason of concrete due to the fidelity of self–ideology. Adorno's project is an unfinished project in that it tries to identify the planning and theoretical foundation of dialectical social theory with a critique of positivist sociology and to not attempt to 'search and restore social things' while restraining freedom as a society's idea can be evaluated.
