The purpose of this paper re-establishes the definition of the frequently used ergative verb structure in modern Chinese, and explains the meaning of the case assignment of the syntactic by using the cognitive path image schema, to help understand the Chinese ergative verb structure. The ergative verb structure is expressed as ‘V+RC(动结式)’, there exist activity and result events. This disproves the existence of an Starting point of the activity and Ending-point terminating with result events. I guessed there would be a 'path' which is connecting the process, and were verified by path image schema. The semantic characteristics of the ergative verb structure shared with the following three semantics. First, the non-activeness of subject, second, the state change of the phrase, and the ending-point. We first ascertained the path image schema for each semantic feature, and then verified the invariance of the semantic feature by deriving the full path image schema of the ergative verb structure.
