A variety of digital tools including CBDB, QGIS, Pajek, MARKUS, and DocuSky was used to investigate Keju, which was conducted in 1163, and the social relations of LouYue. First of all, there is no record for Keju Dengkelu. The number of people who passed the Keju was obtained by using CBDB, but this number is much smaller than the number for Dengkelu derived by Gongyanming. These two data were input by using QGIS on a map of the Southern Song Dynasty. As a result, the region which produced successful candidates of the exam was identified. Even if these two sets of data have a different point of view, the data with more information on Dengkelu is assumed to be more accurate. Among all the Jinshi who might have a relationship with successful candidates, LouYue is the only person whose background was established on his mother’s side. Secondly, LouYue’s relationship with his relatives and associates was examined. Many people who were related to LouYue were identified along with their hometowns. Half of these people lived in Mingzhou Yinxian and some lived in Liangzhe Province. The data which was derived by using CBDB was saved to Pajek, and used to generate a genealogical tree. This tree not only shows the marriage relations among several families, including the Lou family and the Wang family, but also effectively shows a social network among the prominent people from each family. After studying the social network of LouYue by using Pajek, an analysis of the centralization of the network shows a ranking of social status in the following order: ZhuXi, ZhouBida, WeiLiaoweng, LuZuqian, and LouYue. This analysis also shows an interaction between these people and LouYue. By using Docusky, LouYue’s concrete social network through Keju was observed: LouYue wrote many memorial notes on gravestones for the examiners of the first year of LongXing, about fifty people of Tongnian, and people related to his Tongnian. He also wrote memorial poems for these people when they were transferred to different jobs. In conclusion, LouYue interacted in social network with people from Mingzhou Yinxian; Liangzhe Province including Wenzhou, a local government official; Sichuan Province including WeiLiaoweng; LuZuqian; ZhuXi as well as people from prominent families. His social network was based in his hometown and expanded to his work places in regional areas, and also to the central area as he was promoted to a political career.
