20세기 기독교가 낳은 탁월한 이슬람 학자인 케네스 크래그(Kenneth Cragg)는 복음증거를 위해 이슬람을 일평생 연구하였다. 그는 이슬람 선교의 궁극적인 목적은 무슬림들이 예수를 그리스도로 받아들이고 회심하는 것이라고 주장하였다. 크래그는 무슬림들은 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화, 그리고 종교가 밀접하게 연결되어 있는 삶을 살고 있기에, 그들에게 복음을 올바르게 증거하기 위해서는 이슬람에 대한 정확한 연구와 이해가 선행되어야 한다고 강조하였다. 무슬림은 일반적으로 기독교의 삼위일체 하나님이 타우히드보다는 쉬르크에 근접한 것으로 이해한다. 움마는 이슬람의 형성시기부터 존재하였고 무슬림은 국가를 넘어서 완전한 이슬람 공동체인 움마에 가치를 둔다. 복음증거를 위해 그리스도인들은 무함마드에 대해 종합적인 이해가 필요하다. 이슬람 최후의 예언자는 메카와 메디나 시대의 양면성을 간직하고 있으며 수피들의 모범이 되기도 한다. 크래그에게 무슬림들에게 복음을 증거하는 사역은 특정한 방식으로 일정 기간에 마칠 수 있는 것이 아니다. 대신 예수 그리스도의 삶과 사역을 그들 가운데서 재현하는 것이 되어야 한다. 예수 그리스도께서는 이 땅에 죄인을 위해 오셨고 공생애를 광야에서 시작하셔서 십자가에서 마치셨다. 하나님의 나라를 위해 고난을 감당하셨다. 또한 예수 그리스도께서는 죄인들을 비판하는 것이 아니라 긍휼한 마음으로 그들과 함께 하셨다. 복음의 본질인 예수 그리스도의 삶과 사역은 그리스도인들로 하여금 무슬림에게 어떻게 사역해야 하는지에 관한 정도(正道)를 제시한다.
Kenneth Cragg, a prominent Muslim scholar of the twentieth century Christianity, studied Islam all his life for the sake of the gospel. The ultimate goal of Islamic mission is that Muslims accept Jesus as Christ and are converted. Crag said that Muslims live a life where politics, economy, society, culture, and religion are closely connected, so it should be emphasized that accurate research and understanding of Islam should be preceded in order to properly testify to the gospel. Muslims generally understand that the Triune God of Christianity is closer to shirk than to tawhid. The ummah has existed since the formation of Islam, and Muslims have moved beyond the state to value a complete Islamic community. For evangelical evidence, Christians need a comprehensive understanding of Muhammad. The last prophet of Islam preserves both sides of the Mecca and Medina era and is an example of the Sufis. The work of witnessing the gospel to the Muslims is not something that can be done in a certain way in a certain period. Instead, it should be to reproduce the life and ministry of Jesus Christ among them. Jesus Christ came for sinners in the world and began his public life in the wilderness and finished on the cross. He suffered for the kingdom of God. Jesus Christ also did not criticize sinners rather was with them with compassion. The life and ministry of Jesus Christ, the essence of the gospel, provides the right way of how Christians should minister among Muslims.
