The Zulu are the most well-known African tribe originating in the KwaZulu-Natal region of South Africa since the fourteenth century. This study examines cultural and traditional values of the indigenous, the Zulu philosophy of the universe called ‘Ubuntu,’ the connection between the community of the indigenous and its natural environment, their faith in ancestral spirits and religious beliefs, the geographical features, warfare and conflict with the Europeans. The results of the study are as follows. First, the world view of the Zulu tribe can be defined by natural and social customs, traditions and cultures, and spiritual connection with the ancestors. These tribal philosophies presuppose the interconnectedness of all things in the universe. Second, family, faith, ethics, and tradition constitute the basis of the values of the Zulu community. Their values ultimately focus on the recovery of the natural order. The connection between God and the ancestors, and between man and nature, is understood to be a connection with profound and deep spiritual power. Third, the traditional Ubuntu philosophy enabled the Zulu to transition from apartheid and segregation towards building a land of social cohesion and coexistence. The Zulu faith in God, their beliefs, art and their way of life are symbolic of African culture.
14세기 남아프리카 KwaZulu-Natal 지역의 Zulu 원주민은 아프리카의 대표적인 소수민족이다. 본 연구는Zulu 부족의 Ubuntu 라고 불리는 우주에 대한 철학, 원주민의 자연과 공동체와의 관계, 종교관 및 조상들에 대한영혼의 믿음, 지리적 특징, 유럽인들과의 전쟁과 갈등, 소수민족의 전통과 문화의 가치를 고찰하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, Zulu 부족의 우주에 대한 세계관은 자연과 사회적 관습, 전통과 문화, 조상들과의영적인 교류로써 정의될 수 있다. 이들 부족의 철학은 우주의 모든 사물의 상호 관련성을 전제로 한다. 둘째, 줄루민족의 공동체에 대한 가치관은 가족, 신념, 윤리, 그리고 전통에 기초한다. 가치관은 궁극적으로 자연 질서의 회복에초점을 맞추고 있다. 신과 조상, 그리고 인간과 자연의 관계는 심오하고도 깊은 영적인 힘을 가진 관계로 이해된다. 셋째, Zulu 부족은 Ubuntu 전통 철학으로 인종차별 정책의 갈등으로부터 융합과 공존의 땅을 이루었다. 아프리카문화는 사람들의 신에 대한 믿음과 가치관, 예술 그리고 삶의 방식을 의미한다.
