본 연구의 목적은 정산 송규 종사가 1937년 9월『 회보』에 발표한「 일원상에 대하여」의 구성과 내용을 분석하고, 이 논서가 갖는 역사적, 사상적 의미를 원 불교 교리 형성과정과 근대 동아시아 사상의 흐름 속에서 살펴보고자 한다. 이 논서는 일원상(一圓相)을 ‘전달력 있고 알기 쉬운 용어와 구성’을 통해 소개함으 로써 일원상 교리를 명료화하고, 그 보편적 이해를 확산시키려는 목적으로 저 술되었다. 주요 내용은 일원상진리의 내역과 성격을 철학적으로 개념화 하고, 일원상을 중심으로 한 자력과 타력의 병진구조를 제시하였다. 또한 일원상을 생활 속에서 활용하는 방법으로 신앙·숭배·체득·이용을 제시함으로써 실 천적인 교리체계를 구성하였다. 불법연구회는『 조선의 유사종교』 발간 이후 유사종교로 분류되었고 총독부의 본격적인 감시를 받았다. 이에 따라 불법연 구회 설립 이전에 초안된『 조선불교혁신론』을 1935년 발표하여 불교혁신 사 상과 제도의 틀을 정리하고, 불성 일원상을 신앙의 대상으로 공식화하였다. 그 후 정산은「 일원상에 대하여」를 발표하여 일원상교리 체계를 확립해 나갔다. 불법연구회는 일원상 교리의 확립을 통해『 육대요령』의 교리체계에서 일원상 을 중심으로 한『 불교정전』으로 발전하는 계기를 마련하였고, 일제의 식민지 배로 인한 폭력과 불평등의 모순적 현실로부터 민중들의 정신적 주체성을 수 호하고 현실적 억압에 맞서 평등하고 평화로운 사회를 구현하기 위한 종교사 상적 대응을 펼친 것이다. 이 논서는 일원상의 진리를 불교뿐만 아니라 유가의 진리관에 연결시켜 설명하였다. 이는 일원상이 제(諸) 종교의 세계관을 회통하 는 상징이라는 의미를 보여준다. 또한 유교에서 주로 밝힌 세간 도덕과 윤리를 불교의 궁극적 진리관과 통합함으로써 불법을 생활화 한 생활종교의 이념을 확립하고자 했다. 또한, 일원상 신앙의 정체성을 전체신앙·진리신앙·사실 신앙의 세 가지 측면으로 밝힘으로써 과거의 불합리하고 미신적인 신앙을 일 대 혁신하고자 했다. 마지막으로, 일원상이라는 형이상학적 개념과 그 교리체 계를 관념적이고 사변적 개념 안에 가두지 않고, 신앙과 숭배, 체득과 이용이 라는 양 측면의 실천방법에 연결함으로써 우주론과 심성론, 그리고 실천론을 하나의 체계로 밝힌 점이 사상적으로 중요한 의미를 갖는다.

This study aims to analyze the background·structure and contents of「 On Il-Won-Sang」, which played a significant role in shaping the fundamental principles of Il-Won-Sang. I examine the text’s meaning on the process of forming the doctrine in Won -Buddhism. Written in an academic style, this text represents the initial dharma teachings of Master Chongsan, which summarize his perspectives on Il-Won-Sang.「 On Il-Won-Sang」 consists of 7 chapters which was first issued in Won-Buddhist Newsletter during 1937. It outlines the doctrine of Il-Won-Sang, supplementing the contents of the “Image of One Circle" in「 The Doctrine of Buddhist Reform in Korea」. The following is a summary of my examination of「 On Il-Won-Sang」 and its formation of the initial doctrine of Il-Won-Sang. Abstractly and fragmentarily introduced in 「The Doctrine of Buddhist Reform in Korea」,「 On Il-Won-Sang」 summarizes the Il-Won Sang theory with easy-to-understand terms and composition while concentrating and clarifying Il-Won Sang. The purpose of this text focuses not only on finding the identity of the religious organization by establishing the ideological system of the Buddhadharma Research Society, but this text also assists people who were in a crisis of losing their spiritual identity during Japanese colonialization to recover their own true nature and make a world of equality and peace. This text greatly enhances the doctrine of Il-Won-Sang by defining the philosophy and structure of its doctrines, including the truth, faith, worshiping, the modeling on and utilizing Il-Won-Sang. By linking the Dharma of Buddhism and Confucianism, especially through concepts such as Ki,「 On Il-Won-Sang」 clarifies the stance of Won -Buddhism which is tolerant of all religious philosophies while centering the dharma of Buddhism. Additionally, the text emphasizes the importance of practicality and social reformation by explaining how the Il-Won-Sang and its doctrine combine the realm of ultimate truth with human life. The truth and religious doctrines are not based on ideological or speculative theories but rather pursuing Mahayana and practical philosophical perspectives by presenting more applicable methodologies to individuals and society through harmonization with social and historical contexts.
