Goryeo has established a Tributary and Investiture Relationship with several Chinese dynasties for over 500 years. In this process, Goryeo dynasty used the era names of various dynasties, which was due to the change of power of the Chinese dynasties of the day. The era names used by the Goryeo dynasty in consideration of time are as follows:in general, Post-Ryang(後粱, 918~923), Post-Dang(後唐, 924~936), Post-Jin(後晋, 937~946), Gwangdeock(光德, 949~950), Post-Ju(後周, 952 ~959), Jungpung(峻豊, 960~963) and Song(宋, 964~994). The Goryeo dynasty used Liao(遼) as the era name from 995, which was judged by the influence of the first Goryeo-Liao war in October, 993. The era name of Song appeared around 1017~1021, and the era name of Liao appeared from 1022 again. This may be related to the fact that Goryeo cut off diplomatic relations with Liao in 1013, and resumed intercourse with Song later the following year. It can also be related to the historical events in which Goryeo won in the 3rd Goryeo-Liao war, which began in 1018, and exchanged again with Liao as a condition of normalization of diplomatic relations. Until 1076, only the era name of Liao appears. From era between 1078 and 1118, both era names of Liao and Song appear, and only era name of Song appears until 1125, when Liao collapsed. After that, until the year 1234 when Jin(金) collapsed, Song(Namsong) and Jin’s era name appeared mixed. The era name of Yuan(元) first appeared in 1237 and continues to appear until 1368 when Yuan was destroyed. Thereafter, the era of Ming(明) was used until 1392, when Chosun established, except for the era name Sungwang(宣光) of Yuan, which was used in 1375 for a while. In this process, metal objects and roof tiles with era names show the following characteristics:1) specific use of Wu and Song’s era name, 2) using the era name of the already destroyed dynasty, 3) using the old era name, regardless of the fact that the era name has changed and 4) using multiple era names mixed at one time. These features are different from the records of Goryeo-Sa. Among the metal artifacts and the inscriptions on roof tiles, there are 22 examples that are different from the era name of the time. Among these, Jin’s era name is 12, which is the largest number.
