Canonization of Kim Soo-young by Literature Education and the Genre Ideology

이 논문은 비평 담론과 문학교육의 장에서 ‘김수영’이라는 상상적 총체로서의 정전이 형성되어 온 과정을 살피고, 문학교육을 통한 김수영 정전화에 작동한 해석의 권력과 한국현대시의 장르 이데올로기를 분석한다. 김수영 사후 ‘김수영 만들기’에 참여한 비평 담론은김수영에 대한 해석의 투쟁 과정을 보여주며, 한국 현대시의 성취와 한계를 측정하는 지표로서 김수영의 자리를 증명한다. 이와 달리 문학교육을 통한 김수영의 정전화는 시 장르의 전통적 관습과 이데올로기에 따라 ‘하나의 김수영’을 가공해내는 과정을 보여준다. 김수영의 정전화 과정에서 작동한 선정과 배제의 기준, 가공과 배치의 논리를 분석하는 것은 문학교육이 무엇을 한국시의 현대성으로 확립하고 승인해 왔는가를 밝히는 일이 될 수 있다. 김수영의 어떤시가 교과서에 선정되고, 그렇게 선정된 시가 어떻게 해석․배치․평가되었는가를 살핌으로써 우리 시의 어떤 속성이 시적인 것으로 선택되고 어떤 속성이 비(非)시적인 것으로 배제되었으며 어떤 속성이 어떻게 관리․가공되었는지를 알 수 있다. 김수영의 시가 수용되고 해석될 때 견뎌야 하는 전통 시학의 온도와 압력은 여전히 작동하고 있는 시 장르의 이데올로기이며, 바로 이 지점이 한국 현대시가 도달해 있고 넘어서려 하는 갱신의 지점이라고 할 수 있다.

This paper examines the process in which Canon as an imaginary whole called ‘Kim Soo-young’ has been formed through critical discourse and literature education and ana-lyzes the power of interpretation and the genre ideology of Korean modern poetry work-ing on canonization of Kim Soo-young through literature education. The critical dis-course which participated in ‘the Making Kim Soo-young’ after his death shows the struggle of interpretation of Kim Soo-young and proves his position as an indicator of the achievements and limitations of Korean modern poetry. On the other hand, canonization of Kim Soo-young through literature education shows the process of making ‘only one Kim Soo-young’ according to the traditional customs and ideology of the poetry genre. Analyzing the criteria of the selection and exclusion, the logic of processing and arrange-ment working on canonization of Kim Soo-young should reveal what literature education has established and approved as the modernity of Korean poetry. The temperature and pressure of traditional poetics that Kim Soo-young’s poetry must endure when it is ac-cepted and interpreted in process of canonization are still working ideology of the poetry genre. This point is the boundary of renewal that Korean modern poetry has reached and is about to overtake.
