본 연구는 성인자녀로부터 받는 돌봄대가 수혜여부가 손자녀를 돌보는 조부모의 정신건강에 미치는 영향이 조부모의 가구소득에 따라 어떻게 다른지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 한국노후보장패널조사의 3차년도 자료를 사용하였으며, 연구대상은 손자녀를 돌보는 노인 중 돌봄대가 수혜여부 문항에 응답한 380명이다. 본 연구에서는 매칭방법 중 하나인 CEM(coarsened exact matching)을 적용하였으며, 매칭 후 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 매칭 후 회귀분석은 연구대상의 평균소득을 기준으로 고소득집단(178명)과 저소득집단(202명)을 구분하여 각각 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 고소득집단의 정신건강에는 돌봄대가 수혜가 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았지만, 저소득집단의 정신건강에는 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 저소득집단에 속하는 손자녀를 돌보는 조부모의 경우, 돌봄대가를 받으며 손자녀를 돌보는 조부모가 돌봄대가 없이 손자녀를 돌보는 조부모보다 더 정신건강이 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 동일한 돌봄대가라도 그것을 받는 손자녀를 돌보는 조부모의 가구소득에 따라 돌봄대가가 서로다른 의미를 갖게 됨을 의미한다. 특히 저소득집단 조부모에게 있어 이러한 결과는 돌봄대가가 손자녀 돌봄을 제공하는 것에 대한 보상으로 작용함을 의미한다. 즉, 사회교환이론에 따르면, 저소득 조부모가 금전적 보상 없이 손자녀를 돌볼 경우에는 이익보다는 손해가 발생한다고 인식할 가능성이 크다. 본 연구는 지금까지 중요하게 다뤄지지 않은 조부모의 돌봄노동에대한 대가와, 현대사회의 세대 간 관계의 상호교환적 측면을 다뤘다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the various effects of monetary reward from adult-children on the mental health among grandparents by different income levels. For the analysis, the third wave data of the Korea Retirement and Income Study was utilized. The Sample was grandparents who took care of grandchildren and who responded to the question about the monetary reward for grandchild care from their adult-children. In this study, coarsened exact matching (CEM) and weighted OLS regression were applied for analysis. All analyzes were separately performed with two groups divided by the average income (N high-income group =180, N lower-income group =203). The results showed that the effect of the monetary reward of grandchild care on grandparents' mental health was not statistically significant among the high income group but significant among the low-income group. It means that the monetary reward for grandchild care works differently on the mental health depending on the income level among grandparents. Especially, the concept of reciprocity between grandchild care and monetary reward can explain the intergenerational exchange in the lower income context. These results suggest that institutional support for low-income grandparents, in particular, economic support from the government, is in need. This study is meaningful in that it dealt with the monetary reward for the grandchild caring among grandparents in the various income contexts.
