본고에서는 일본의 유력 영화사 도호가 선보인 특수촬영 기술에 주목하여 한일 영화 교류․관계사의 문화적 양상을 탐구하였다. 우선, <사랑과 맹세(愛と誓ひ)>(1945) 속 전투 및 출격 장면에 주목하여 여기에 투입된 도호의 특수촬영 기술이 이 작품에 대한 의미 부여와 한일 영화 교류․관계사에 대한 인식에 적지 않은 영향을 미쳤음을 고찰하였다. 이어, <군용열차(軍用列車)>(1938), <망루의 결사대(望楼の決死隊)>(1943) 등 그 전 시기 조선영화계와 도호 간 영화 합작 과정에서의 역할 분담의 특징에 따라 기술 부문의 경우 주로 일본 측이 담당하였음을 파악하고, 이를 배경으로 조선영화계가 일본영화를 어떠한 시선으로 바라보았는지에 대해 기술적 측면에 초점을 맞추어 살펴보았다. 나아가 그것이 패전/해방 이후에는 어떠한 (연속적) 경향을 보였는지에 관해 검토하였다. 아울러, 제한적이나마 지속되고 있던 한국과 일본의 문화적 교류 재개 및 유지 활동의 일환으로 행해진 일본영화계 소속의 특수촬영 제작진의 방한 및 기술 제휴의 사례를 <대괴수 용가리>(1967), <증언>(1974), <난중일기>(1977) 등을 통해 들여다보았다. 그리고 이를 통해, 도호의 특수촬영 기술을 매개로 한 한일 영화 교류․관계사의 양상이 세계영화사의 흐름과 동떨어진 것이 아니었음을 확인하였다.

This paper examines certain cultural aspects from the shared history of Korean-Japanese film exchanges and relations by focusing on technologies used in special effects which TOHO; a remarkable film production provided. First, TOHO's technology, which was used in battle sequences or in attack scenes in <Love and Vow>(1945) gave special meaning to this film and pushed forward the understanding of exchanges and relations between Korea and Japan. Next, Japan was in charge of the technological work on <Military Train>(1938) and <Suicide Squad of the Watchtower>(1943) according to the division of roles through a collaborative agreement between Joseon film industry and TOHO in the past. With this background, this paper contemplates on how the Joseon film industry recognized Japanese films in terms of technology. Moreover, this paper investigates which aspects of the relationship between Korea and Japan are evident continuously after the failure of the War/Liberation. Plus, as a way of resuming and maintaining cultural exchanges between Korea and Japan, which was limited somewhat, a special effects technical crew from theJapan film industry visited Korea and established forms of technical cooperation; <The Great Monster Yongary>(1967), <Testimony>(1974), <A War Diary>(1977) were examples. Through this case, this paper confirms aspects of the Korean-Japanese film exchanges and relations through TOHO's special effects technology were not separated from the course of world film history.
