이 연구에서는 기회균등전형을 통해 과학고등학교에 입학한 학생들의 학업성취 수준 및 그 변화 양상을 확인하고, 이 학생들이 학교생활에서 겪는 구체적인 어려움과 이 학생들을 위해 학교에서 지원하는 학교생활 적응 프로그램의 운영 실태를 조사하였다. 이를 위해 지방 소재 7개 과학고등학교를 대상으로 학생들의 학적 현황 및 기회균등전형 입학생의 학업성취도 자료, 기회균등전형 입학생 116명과 입학업무를 담당하고 있는 교사 21명이 작성한 설문 조사 자료를 이용하였다. 연구 결과, 기회균등전형 입학생들은 일반전형 입학생들보다 전반적인 학업성취 수준이 낮았고 학업 수행 및 학업 수행 외 학교생활에서 더 많은 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 또한, 기회균등전형 입학생들의 학업성취를 실질적으로 이끌고 있다고 인정되는 학업성취도 향상 프로그램을 찾을 수 없었고, 대부분의 학교생활 적응 프로그램이 일회성의 성격을 띤 채 다른 교육 프로그램들과 독립적으로 운영되고 있었다. 기회균등전형 입학생들 중 우수한 학업성취를 보이는 학생들의 특징을 분석한 결과, 이 학생들의 특징은 회복탄력성, 용기, 호기심, 마음챙김, 리더십 등 인성 역량과 관련되어 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 과학고등학교에서 기회균등전형 입학생들의 학교생활 적응을 지원하는 프로그램의 효과적인 운영 방안에 대한 함의를 논의하였다.
The purpose of this study was to identify the academic achievement level and its change of students through the equal opportunity screening in science high school and to identify the specific difficulties that these students face in their school life and the actual condition of school life adaption programs for these students. For this purpose, we used school register of students, academic achievement data of students through the equal opportunity screening and survey data(116 students, 21 teachers) collected from seven regional science high schools. The results showed that the students through the equal opportunity screening had lower overall academic achievement levels than those with general students and had more difficulties in academic performance and school life. In addition, there were no academic achievement improvement programs that were considered to be leading practically the achievement of students through the equal opportunity screening. Most of the school life adaption programs were independent of other educational programs, with a one-off nature. As a result of analyzing the characteristics of the students with excellent academic achievement among the students through the equal opportunity screening, the characteristics of these students were related to character competence such as resilience, courage, curiosity, mindfulness, and leadership. Based on the results of this study, we discussed the implications for effective implementation of the program to support the school life adaptation of students through the equal opportunity screening in science high school.
