본 연구는 치위생학과 학생의 긍정적이며 올바른 전문직 자아개념을 형성하기 위해 비판적 사고성향, 문제해결능력, 자기주도적 학습능력 및 전문직 자아개념 간의 관계를 파악하고 전문직 자아개념에 영향을 미치는 요인을 확인하기 위한 연구이다. 이 연구는 자기보고식 설문지를 이용하여 전라도에 소재하는 322명의 치위생학과 학생으로부터 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과, 치위생 전공 대학생의 전문적 자아개념에 영향을 미치는 요인은 문제해결능력이 높을수록, 치위생 전공에 만족할수록, 자기주도적 학습능력이 높을수록, 치과위생사 직업을 평생직업으로 인지할수록 전문직자아개념이 높게 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 치위생 전공 대학생의 전문직 자아개념에 영향을 미치는 요인은 문제해결능력, 전공만족도, 자기주도 학습능력으로 이론 중심의 교육에서 벗어나 문제해결능력 및 자기주도적 학습능력을 강화할 수 있는 교육과정의 개발이 필요함을 알 수 있었다. 치과위생사 양성 교육에 있어 전문가로서 긍정적인 자아개념을 형성할 수 있도록, 또한 올바른 가치관과 신념을 확립해 나갈 수 있도록 적극적이고 실질적인 교육과정 및 향상 프로그램 등의 개발이 필요하다.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of critical thinking disposition, problem-solving skills, self-directed learning capabilities and professional self-concept in dental hygiene students and influential factors for their professional self-concept in an effort to instill positive and right self-concept in these students. Self-administered questionnaire was used to gather data from 322 dental hygiene students in Jeolla-Do area. Concerning factors affecting professional self-concept, professional self-concept was better when problem-solving skills were more excellent, when majoring in dental hygiene was more satisfactory, when self-directed learning capabilities were better and when the occupation of dental hygienist was regarded as a lifelong job. The findings of the study illustrated that the factors which affected the professional self-concept of the dental hygiene students were problem-solving skills, satisfaction with major and self-directed learning capabilities. It is necessary to develop a curriculum that can enhance problem-solving ability and self-directed learning ability. In education for dental hygienists, the development of more active and substantial curriculums and educational programs seems necessary to teach them to build positive self-concept as professionals and establish their values and beliefs in the right way.
