이 글은 핵이 야기한 전지구적 공간의 변용이라는 관점 하에서 1950년대 만들어진 미국 SF영화와 괴수영화, 일본의 괴수영화를 핵과 관련된 일련의 순차적 계기들 속에 위치시켜 분석해보고자 한 시도이다. 1950년 한국전쟁과 이 전쟁이 끝난 직후 이루어진 1953년의 ‘핵의 평화이용’ 선언, 1954년의 비키니 수폭실험과 그것이 야기한 대중 반핵운동의 등장이라는 계기들이 그것이다. 미국이 ‘전쟁’이 아닌 ‘치안 유지 행위’라는 명목으로 개입한 첫 번째 전쟁인 한국전쟁 당시 만들어진영화 <지구가 멈추는 날>은 지구 내전에 개입, 조율하는 외계인의 형상을 통해‘지구적 리바이어던’의 성립을 보여준다. 한국전쟁이 휴전으로 종결되는 지점과 맞물려 있는 <심해에서 온 괴물>은 완전한 타자로서의 냉전의 적이라는 전형적인형상을 보여주는(이 파충류는 곧이어 개미, 문어, 게, 거미 등등의 뮤턴트들로 이어질 것이다) 한편 핵으로서 핵을 패퇴시킨다는 한국전쟁 이후 미국의 핵전략의명료한 반영을 보여준다. 비키니 수폭실험 당시의 일본 어선 피폭사건을 직접적으로 반영하여 만들어진 일본산 피폭 괴수영화 <고지라>는 <심해에서 온 괴물>의영향에도 불구하고 미국 괴수영화와 전혀 다른 형상의 측면에서 이야기되어야 할영화이다. 미국 괴수영화와 달리 유사인간적 괴수의 형상을 한 고지라에는 역사적, 지정학적 다의성과 함께 공멸의 무기/풍요와 번영의 에너지로 분기된 핵의 이 가상적 분할선 자체가 기입되어 있다.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the American Science Fiction Film a Japan’s monster film made in 1950s by locating them in a series of consecutive chances related to atomic bomb in the point of view called transformation of global space caused by nuclear weapons. The chances are the Korean War in 1950, ‘Atom for Peace’ declaration in 1953 made right after the war, Bikini H-bomb test and the appearance of the public’s antinuclear movement caused by the test. The Day the Earth Stool Still which was released during the Korean War, the first war that the US was involved in under the pretext of not ‘war’ but ‘a police action’, shows the establishment of ‘global leviathan’ through the figuration of alien intervening in the ‘global’ civil war and mediating it. The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms released when the Korean War ended in a truce shows a typical figuration, the enemy of the cold war as a complete ‘other’(this reptile will lead to mutants such as ant, octopus, crab, spider and etc.) and the US’s clear reflection of nuclear weapon strategy suggesting that the state will defeat nuclear weapons using nuclear weapons. Godzilla, which is Japan’s film about a monster created by radiation exposure, was made as directly reflecting Japan’s H-bomb-exposed fishing boat incident during Bikini H-bomb test. It needs to be treated in a totally different view of figuration from the monster of America science filction film despite of the relation of The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. Godzilla, which shows a human-like monster unlike the US’s monster’s otherness, includes imaginary of nuclear split line itself ramified by historical and geopolitical equivocality and codestruction’s weapon/abundance’s energy.
