This study aims to analyse the function of a series of sentiment expressions Korean ‘huhoy’(regret) in Korean product reviews from the perspective of corpus linguistics. For the purpose of this study, an 4 million word clothing corpus was built composed of online product reviews which have been morphologically annotated. In Korean product reviews, despite of the negative literal meaning of huhoy(regret), the use of huhoy(regret) does not denote an actual regret, but rather the reviewer’s satisfaction with the product reviewed. In this case, huhoy(regret) is most frequently used in negative constructions and other conventional constructions, which all express the writer’s positive attitude. This study suggests that sentiment analysis should consider not only word level analysis but also phrase level analysis and lexicography try to find new paradigm to extract and describe ‘semantic unit’ in domain-specific genres.
