It is necessary to understand the characteristics of tourist behavior why do they participate or do not participate in overseas travel. Compared with participants and nonparticipants in overseas travel, some policies and the marketing strategies in South Korea are able to excel in promoting domestic travel and has become a major destination for both travelers. This study seeks to identify the difference of participants and nonparticipants in overseas travel. The specific objectives are to identify the travel characteristics of participants and nonparticipants considering demographic changes on the lifecycle stage. The analysis of travel behavior by each birth cohort, Participants and nonparticipants in overseas travel were then examined by cohort. The results of this analysis showed varying patterns of day trips and domestic travel for each cohort. From the perspective of cohort effect, we analyzed multivariate analysis of variance on the participants and nonparticipants of overseas travel. The different tourism travel behaviors according to the nonparticipants was due to cohorts and income level, and interaction effect. In contrast, the different tourism travel behaviors according to the nonparticipants was due to cohorts. This study makes a contribution to the tourism literature by analyzing travel behavior patterns with a focus on age and household income level.
