이 글은 대학이 사라질 것이라는 미래예측에 대한 하나의 반론이다. 과학의 발전을 통해 지식의 보편화와 기계화가 급속도로 확산되면서, 현재 대학이 위기에 봉착한 것은 사실이지만 그 결과가 대학의 사라짐일까에 대해서는 보다 깊이 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 모든 일에 부침이 있는 것처럼, 위기에는 반전의 기회가 얼마든지 존재한다. 현재 대학의 위기는 자본주의의 시장화와 맞물려 있지만, 거기에 또한 기회도 존재한다. 지식의 시장화와 보편화 과정 속에서 위기를 반전으로 돌릴 수 있는 가능성 또한 자연스럽게 드러나고 있다. 대학이 사라진다는 일반적 예측에 대해 필자는 반문한다. ‘진짜 대학이 사라질 것이라고 생각하는가?’ 이에 대한 필자의 대답은 이렇다: ‘진짜 대학만 살아남을 것이다.’ 이 글의 궁극적 목표는 진리탐구를 통한 지혜의 전당이자 학문의 상아탑이라는 대학 본연의 목표를 1000년을 돌아 다시 세울 수 있는 가능성을 찾아보는 것이다.
This article is a reflection on the future prediction that university will disappear. As the universalization of knowledge and mechanization spread rapidly through the development of science, it is true that the university is in crisis, but it is necessary to think more deeply about whether the result is the disappearance of the university. Just as there is an upsurge in all things, there are many opportunities for reversal in the crisis. The current crisis of the university is associated with the marketization of capitalism, but there are also opportunities. The possibility of reversing the crisis in the process of marketization and universalization of knowledge is also naturally emerging. I have an opposing ideas about the general opinion on the disappearance of university. My answer to this question is: “Only the real university will survive.” The ultimate goal of this article is looking for the possibility of rebuilding the goal of the university which is the wisdom hall of inquiry around a thousand years back.
