본 연구는 만 4, 5세 자녀를 둔 어머니를 대상으로 어머니의 인구학적 배경인 연령, 최종학력, 취업여부에 따른 역경지수의 차이를 살펴보고, 어머니의 공동체의식이 대인관계능력을 매개하여 역경지수에 영향을 미친다는 매개모형을 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 어머니의 역경지수를 파악하기 위하여 연구자는 Stoltz(2000)가 고안한 위기반응프로필(Adversity Response Profile)을 한국어로 번안한 후 영어로 역번안하였고, 내용타당도를 검증한 후 설문조사를 실시하였다. P시에 위치한 어린이집과 유치원에 재원 중인 만 4, 5세 유아의 어머니 223명을 대상으로 하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 어머니 역경지수는 연령과 최종학력에 따른 차이는 유의하였지만, 취업여부에 따른 차이는 유의하지 않았다. 둘째, 어머니의 공동체의식, 대인관계능력, 역경지수는 모두 유의한 정적 상관이 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 어머니 공동체의식은 대인관계능력을 완전매개하여 역경지수에 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이러한 연구결과는 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니들의 역경지수를 향상하기 위해서는 지역 공동체에 대한 어머니의 긍정적 인식과 질 높은 대인관계형성이 필요하다는 것을 시사한다.
This study aimed to investigate difference in mother’s sense of community, interpersonal competence, and adversity quotients in relation to mother’s age, employ status, and levels of education and to examine the mediating effect of interpersonal competence on the relationships between the sense of community and the adversity quotients of mothers with 4- and 5-year-old children. To estimates the levels of mother’s adversity quotients, the researcher translated the Adversity Response Profile designed by Stoltz (2000) into Korean, reverse-translated into English, and tested the content validity of the tool. The subjects of this study were 223 mothers of children aged 4 to 5 attending early childhood institutes in P city. The findings of this study were as follows. First, significant difference in mother’s adversity quotients, sense of community, and interpersonal competence were found depending on mother’s levels of education and ages, but not on their employment status. Second, there were significant positive relationships among mother’s sense of community, interpersonal competence, and adversity quotients. Third, interpersonal competence had full mediating effects on the relationships between sense of community and adversity quotients. These findings suggests a need to strengthen mother’s positive affection to their community and to build high-quality interpersonal relationships to improve their adversity quotients.
