고대인들은 인간행위의 의미와 가치가 신들에게서 왔다고 본다. 그들은 신들과 함께 살았던 천상을 꿈꾸며, 그들과 누렸던 영토, 사원, 도시를 세웠다. 그 중심에는 <우주창조>에 대한 염원을 담았다. 우주창조를 향한 그들의 노력은 제의와 의례를 통해 반복되었다. 이러한 우주창조의 신화는 총체적인 완전성의 복원을 향한 원시인의 마음이다. 일상의 모든 중요한 행위들은 태초의 신들이나 영웅에 의해 계시된 것이다. 태초의 시대, 우리의 선조들이 시작한 어마어마한 반복일 뿐이다. 이것은 실재의 삶에 대한 구현이며 의식의 성스러움이다. 고대인들의 사고는 본래의 때로 되돌아가고자하는 것이다. 고대인들의 영원회귀 이론은 원형적인 행위의 반복으로 시공을 초월한 곳으로 돌아감이다. 현대인의 시각에서 볼 때에는 되돌아가는 것은 시간의 폐기, 역사의 폐기이다. 고대인들은 역사가 의미를 갖고 있는 것이 아니라 역사 그자체가 삶이기에 필연적으로 감내한다. 그들은 우주의 리듬, 조물주, 별자리나 신의 의지에 순응하였다. 순수한 사고 본질을 추구하는 고대인의 사고와는 달리, 역사를 추구하며, 역사의 초월적 의미를 제거한 현대인들은 의식의 세계를 실재라고 강조한다. 현대인의 역사추구는 역사적인 한계 안에서 계급투쟁의 현현 앞에서 역사의 의미를 찾기 위해 창조적이어야 했다. 그들에게는 스스로를 만들면서 역사를 만들어야하는 자유이외에는 가능한 것은 없었다. 현대인의 역사에서 이러한 갇혀있는 상황이 인간을 절망으로 인도한다. 이것이 현대인이 극복하기 힘든 갈등이다. 우리는 어떤 초역사적인 징표나 의도의 예감을 알아차리기 위해서는 고대인의 사고에 동참해야 할 것이다. 고통을 감내하고 그 고통을 있는 그대로 받아들여 왔던 고대인들의 겸허함을 가질 때, 우리는 비로소 그들의 지혜에 동참할 수 있을 것이다.
The ancient people believed that the meaning and value of human being’s behavior came from gods. They dreamed of the heavenly places where they lived with the gods, and established the territories, temples, and cities that they enjoyed with them. At its center is a desire for creation of the universe. Their efforts for creation of the universe have been repeated through both rituals and rites. This myth of universe creation is the primitive mind for the restoration of total perfection. All the important acts of everyday life are what is revealed by the gods and heroes of the beginning. It is only an enormous repetition of our ancestors in the beginning. This is the realization of life and the sacredness of consciousness. The thoughts of the ancient people are to return to the original times. Their theory of eternal return is the repetition of archetypal behaviors, which is to return to the place of the above. It is the abolition of time and history. The ancient people do not believe that history has meaning. Rather, history is life itself. They adapt themselves to the rhythm of the universe, the creator, the constellation of stars, and the will of gods. Contrary to the ancient thinking of pursuing the essence of pure thought, modern people who pursue history, but eliminate its transcendental meaning, emphasize the world of consciousness as reality. The pursuit of history of modern people had to be creative in the limitation of history in front of the manifestation of class struggle. Nothing was possible for them except for the freedom to make themselves and history. This trapped situation in modern human history leads to despair. This is a conflict that modern people can not overcome. We need to be involved in the thinking of the ancient people in order to recognize any prehistoric signs or intentions. When we join their humility which they endured and accept pains as they are, we can participate in their wisdom.
