근자에 들어 남북한 관계가 순풍을 타고 있다. 그에 따라 조심스럽게 통일된 한반도의 수도입지를 어디로정할 것인지에 대한 논의도 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 풍수이론에 의거해 임진강 수계를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 임진강은 한탄강과 합수된 후 수차례 구비치고 있으며, 특히 적성지역에서는 세 줄기 물이 합수되면서 더욱 역동적인 물길을 보이고 있다. 이 지역의 산줄기는 감악산을 주산으로 하여 중성산까지 이어지고 있으며, 중성산 정상에 자리한칠중성은 천혜의 지리적 조건을 갖추고 있다. 이곳을 중심으로 국가 주요기관이 자리하고 신도시가 조성되면 한반도의 국익 최우선이라는 명제 하에 남북한 통합의 상징성. 국토의 균형발전. 대륙과 해양으로의 확장성. 신도시 조성이라는 네 가지 지리적 조건을 충족시키면서 통일수도로 적합한 곳이다.
Relations between South Korea and North Korea have recently run with the favorable wind. Accordingly, discussion has carefully taken place over where the capital of the reunified Korean peninsula should be located. This study attempted to investigate the water system of the Imjingang River based on the Feng Shui theory. As a result, it was found that the waters of the Imjingang River join those of the Hantangang River and then they meanders back and forth several times, especially the confluence of three streams in the area of Jeokseong shows the more dynamic waterway. The mountain range of this area leads up to Mount Jungseong with Mount Gamak as the main mountain, and Chiljungseong at the summit of Mount Jungseong has the natural geographical condition. A new city could be constructed by locating the major agencies of the state with this place as the center. Then it would be the place appropriate as the unifed capital city by meeting four geographical conditions such as the symbolism of the integration of South and North Koreas, the balanced development of the national land, expansibility into the continent and the seas and the construction of the new city on the premise that the national interests of the Korean peninsula should be of paramount importance.
