이 연구는 니체의 영원회귀 사상의 의미를 고찰하고 이것의 교육적 함의를 탐색하기 위한 것이다. 본 글에서는 영원회귀의 의미를 필연성과 교의성이라는 두 차원에서 밝히고, 영원회귀에 함축된 자기극복과 변신의 메시지를 니체의 ‘나’의 대한 논의인 신체-자기론과 망각의 개념을 통해 드러냈다. 우연히 생성‧변전하는 삶만이 필연적으로 회귀될 것이라는 신적 계시 앞에서 영원회귀는 허무주의에 빠지지 않고 오히려 무의미한 현존을 긍정‧사랑하는 운명애의 태도를 갖는 것으로 해석하였다. 동시에 ‘무수히 다시 살기를 바랄만큼의 삶’을 창조하기 위해 신체-자기의 창조적 죽음인 ‘변신’을 감행하고 ‘결정적 한 번의 나’를 망각함으로써 ‘무수한 나들’로 가역적으로 회귀시키는 실천으로 해석하였다. 니체의 이러한 영원회귀 사상이 갖는 교육적 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학습자의성장과 변화는 ‘자아의 동일성 구축’과 ‘신체-자기의 변신’ 간의 길항 작용 및 대체 과정으로 새롭게 이해할 수있다. 둘째, 학습자의 변화나 성장을 돕는 교육에서 ‘적극적 망각’ 또는 ‘기억의 파괴’는 현행 가치와는 완전히 다른 새로운 가치를 실험하는 ‘시도하는 자’ 또는 ‘창조자’에게 중요한 요소이다. 셋째, 영원회귀와 변신은 교육의내적 가치를 드러내주는 ‘운명애로서의 교육'의 메타포를 산출하며, 이러한 메타포는 교육의 외적 가치에 찌든교육학 논의에서 새로운 교육의 이미지로 작용할 수 있다.
This study is to examine Nietzsche's meaning of eternal return and to explore its educational implications. This article reveals the meaning of the eternal recurrence in two dimensions of inevitability and orthodoxy, and investigates the message of self-surpassing and meta-morphosis implied in the eternal return through the concepts of body-self and oblivion. In addition, this paper interprets eternal return as amor-fati that affirms non-sense existence rather than falling into the nihilism when the divine revelation demands that only the life that is mobilized by chance will inevitably return. At the same time, in order to create a life that would desire to live a myriad of lives, this paper interprets eternal return as a practice of reversing the body-self's creative death or ‘transformation of the body-self’. It is shown that Nietzsche's eternal return has the following educational implications: First, the learner's growth can be newly understood as an endless process of antagonism and substitution between self-identity and body-self. Second, oblivion or 'destruction of memory' is an important factor for a 'versucher' who experiments or tempts new values completely different from the current value in education that helps learners grow. Third, ‘education as amor-fati’ that reveals the inner value of education based on the concepts of eternal return and amor-fati can serve as a new image of education.
