본고는 4.19 혁명의 상상력과 젠더 평등의 문학적 의미를 고찰하기 위하여 강신재의 『임진강의 민들레』와 박경리의 『시장과 전장』을 분석하였다. 4.19 혁명이 보여준 변혁의 상상력은 3.1 독립운동, 5.18 광주항쟁, 1987년 6월 항쟁 등 중요한 역사적 계기들을 관통하여 최근의 촛불혁명과 연결된다. 4.19 혁명이 내세우는 ‘자유’와 ‘민주’의 이념은 ‘자유롭고 평등한 개인’으로서의 시민 주체의 자리를 강조한다. 본고에서 특히 주목하는 것은 개인적이면서도 공공적인 시민 주체의 자리에서 모색되는 젠더 평등의 의미이다. 강신재와 박경리의 소설은 4.19 혁명을 통과하면서 가족서사를 통해 역사적 현실의 변화를 다루었다는 공통점을 지닌다. 소설의 여성인물들은 가족관계 속에 위치하는 존재이면서 동시에 전쟁을 비판적으로 바라보는 시민으로서의 정체성을 보여준다. 강신재의 『임진강의 민들레』는 반공이데올로기를 투영하면서도 다양한 균열의 지점들을 통해 전쟁의 참상을 충실하게 재현하였다. 작품이 포착하는 여성의 삶은 이념의 대립과 이로 인한 민중들의 희생, 그리고 그 속에서 추구되는 감각적 열망 사이에서 복합적으로 탐색되고 있다. 박경리의 『시장과 전장』에서 고찰되는 전쟁과 분단현실의 의미는 다양한 이념적 캐릭터를 탐구하는 방식으로 형상화된다. 이 작품에서 전쟁과 가족해체는 여성이 시민의 권리와 책임을 깨닫는 계기가 된다. 여성인물은 전쟁 속에서 평범한 가족들이 폭력적 현실을 어떻게 극복하는가라는 공공적인 문제로 자신의 관심을 확장한다. 4.19 혁명이 일깨운 민주주의의 상상력은 6.25 전쟁과 분단체제를 구조적으로 성찰하게 하는 문학적 계기를 마련하였다. 박경리와 강신재의 소설은 분단현실을 작품 속에 녹여 넣으면서 개인적이면서도 공공적인 여성의 삶과 젠더 평등의 의미를 고찰한 의미를 지닌다.
This article analyze Kang Sin-jae's 『Dandelion of the Imjin River』and Park Kyung-ri`s 『The Market and War Field』to study the literary meaning of the imagination and gender equality of the 4.19 Revolution. The 4.19 Revolution's transformational imagination has been linked to the recent Candlelight Revolution through important historical events such as the 3.1 Independence Movement, the 5.18 Gwangju Uprising, and the June Democratic Uprising in 1987. The value of 4.19 Revolution, ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’, emphasizes the position of the citizen-subject as a ‘free and equal individual’. Especially noteworthy in this article is the meaning of gender equality which is sought in the position of a personal and ‘public’ citizen subject. The novels of Kang Shin-jae and Park Kyung-ri have the common point that it dealt with the change of historical reality from the family narratives through the 4.19 Revolution. The female characters in the novel are located in family relationship and show their identity as a citizen who take a critical view of war. Kang Sin-jae's 『Dandelion of the Imjin River』faithfully recreated the horrors of war through various points of cracks while projecting anti-communism ideology. The life of the woman captured by the work is being explored in a complex way between the confrontation of ideology, the sacrifice of the people by it, and the sensual desire pursued in it. The meaning of war and the Division Realities, which is examined in Park Kyung-ri`s 『The Market and War Field』, is shaping by exploring various ideological characters. In this work, war and family disintegration are the occasion for women to realize the rights and responsibilities of citizens. The female characters extend their attention to the public issue of how ordinary families overcome violent reality in war. The imagination of the democracy that the 4.19 revolution awakens has created a literary moment that structurally reflects the reality of the Korean War and division. The novels of Park Kyung-ri and Kang Shin-jae have the meaning of examining the meaning of the personal and public life of women and gender equality by dissolving the variables of division reality into their works.
