이 논문은 탈북 여성의 시를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 3만의 탈북자중 60~70%에 달하는 여성탈북자의 아픔과 토로가 담긴 여성 탈북시를살피는 것은 문학 연구 이상의 사회적 의미를 가진다. 분단의 그늘과 통일의 기대가 공존하는 오늘날, 이들은 엄연한 우리 사회의 구성원이자소수자이며 이방인 아닌 이방인이다. 또 이들의 시쓰기가 과거의 트라우마를 극복하는 것과 동시에 남한 사회 정착하는 과정에서 겪은 내면의아픔과 변화를 드러내고 정체성과 인간의 존엄성을 깨닫는 과정의 기록이 될 수 있기 때문이다. 탈북 여성시의 주제는 기아와 가난에 대한 증언, 압제에 대한 고발, 가족과고향에 대한 죄책감과 그리움, 고통받는 북한주민에 대한 안타까움 토로등이 그것이다. 여기에 여성이기에 겪어야 했던 몸과 마음의 고통이 더해져 중층의 트라우마가 자리잡게 된다. 하지만 이를 시로 형상화할 때 피상성과 소극성이 보인다. 고통과 현실을 직시하고 자각하고 극복하기보다토로하고 고발하는 것에 집중되고 있었으며 트라우마를 드러내지 않고말하지 않는 양상도 있었다. 탈북여성시를 문학적 관점이나 젠더적 관점으로 분석하기 어려운 한계가 있는데, 이 또한 우리 문학의 현재이며 분단의 문학적 현상이며 문학이 대변하는 사회이자 인간의 모습일 것이다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine the Traumas in the Poems of the woman who defected from North Korea. These poems not only include poems written by North Korean defectors, but also poems on the subject regardless of whether the authors have had such experiences. However, in this paper, North Korean defection poems are limited to poems written by North Korean defectors. The themes of North Korean defection poems are testimony, condemnation, yearning, and appeal. The Poems of female defectors from North Korea is not different. The Poems of female defectors from North Korea speak of the hunger experienced in North Korea, the struggle against oppression, yearning and guilt over one’s family and hometown, and pity for North Koreans who are still under suffering. They describe the painful process of defection and difficulties faced in settling down in South Korea. As such, The Poems of female defectors from North Korea should be 탈북여성시 연구의 의미와 한계 163 perceived as “words of pain from a refugee” rather than focusing on the poet’s literary career or quality of writing. The poets have faced significant threats to their lives and human dignity, and defection is a traumatic event that continues to haunt them. Poetry releases them from such trauma and fulfills the central role of literature — providing them a firm grasp of reality and comforting them at the same time. A mother who had to sell her daughter out of hunger; kids begging for money in the streets of China; a woman living in South Korea who sees her mother in her dreams every night; and an account of the suffering of North Koreans — The Poems of female defectors from North Korea are the wails and lamentations of all who are hurt.
