한국 학부모의 가장 큰 고민 중 하나는 사교육 문제이다. 그러나 사교육 문제가 좀 더 복잡한 것은 두 가지 이유 때문이다. 첫째, 엄청난 사교육비를 들여 가르친다고 해도 장래에 안정적인 직장생활을 할 수 있느냐는 확신할 수 없다는 점이다. 둘째, 사교육을 통해 바람직한 人性을 가진 成人으로 성장하여 건강한 사회인이 될 수 있느냐는 문제 역시 확신할 수 없는 상황이다. 그러나 이런 문제를 다시 한 번 진지하게 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 왜냐하면, 지금의 어린 자녀가 머지않은 장래에는 부모와 자녀간의 새로운 관계를 만드는 데 결정적 요인으로 작용하기 때문이다. 또한 가정에서의 부모와 자녀의 관계는 ‘개인-가족’ 관계뿐만 아니라 ‘개인-사회’ 관계로 확장될 수도 있다. 따라서 자녀교육의 문제는 결코 개별 가정에 국한된 문제가 아니라 사회 전체의 문제가 될 수도 있다. 본 연구는 이 점에 착안하여 현대사회에서 자녀교육의 중요성을 살펴보고, 霞谷 鄭齊斗의 학문관 및 「名兒說」에 나타난 하곡의 자녀관과 자녀교육의 핵심원리 등을 검토하였다. 자녀에 대한 부모의 역할은 물론 특히, 최근 중요시 되고 있는 아들에 대한 아버지의 역할이 고스란히 담겨 있는 「名兒說」을 통해 현대사회에서 하곡학의 교육적 가치와 현대적 의의를 생각해 보았다.
One of the biggest concerns of South Korean parents is the problems of private education. The greater complexity of private education problems is, however, due to two reasons. First, stable work life in the future cannot be assured even if a great amount of private education expenses is spent. Second, whether private education will make children grow into healthy society members with desirable personality cannot be confirmed, either. Such issues, however, need to be seriously taken into consideration again. The reason is that today’s young children will be acting as a decisive factor for making new relationships between parents and children in the near future. In addition, the relationship between parents and children at home can be extended to the relationships not only between ‘individual-family’ but also ‘individual-society’. Accordingly, children education problem is not limited to an individual family but it can be a problem for society as a whole. Based on the discussion above, the present study examined the importance of children education in modern society and reviewed Hagok Jeong Je-du’s view of children and the key principles of children education shown in his view of learning and Myeong-a-seol(名兒說). The educational value and modern significance of Hagok Studies in contemporary society were considered through Myeong-a-seol(名兒說) in which the role of parents for children, especially the role of fathers for sons that is considered to be important recently is comprehensively discussed.
