본 연구는 한국 개화기의 개화사상가 그리고 애국계몽사상가들에게 형성되었던 아동관과 아동교육관을 규명하고자 개화사상가로서 교육이론을 주장한 김옥균, 박영효, 박은식, 유길준, 이기의 문집류와 개화기에 발행된 학회지의 아동교육 관련 기사와 논설을 문헌분석으로 하였다. 아동관은 아동의 본성, 존재가치, 삶의 목적, 사회적 위치의 하위 요소로 나누어 분석하였고 아동교육관은 교육의 목적, 내용 및 방법, 제도로 나누어 분석하였다. 한국 개화기의 아동교육관은 서양의 신인문주의를 기초로 하는 심리적 계발주의와 제국주의적 국가들의 출현과 관련하여 생겨난 국가주의 교육사상의 영향을 받았음을 알 수 있고, 우리나라 내생적인 실학의 교육관과 동학의 아동존중 교육관이 내포되어 있는 것을 알 수 있었다.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the view of child and the child education formed by intellectuals and the patriotic enlightenment thinkers in the period of Korean civilization. The subjects were selected from the literatures written by Kim Ok-Gyun, Bak Yeong-Hyo, Yu Gil-Jun, Bak Eun-Sik, Lee Ki insisted educational theory and articles in the period of Korean civilization. The results of the study are as follows. First, the view of child is consist of the nature of a child, value for existence of a child, the purpose of a child’s life, and the social situation of a child. Second, the view of child education is divided into purpose of education, and contents, ways and systems of education.
