퍼스의 다이어그램은 기호의 재현 시스템으로서 그것이 재현하는 대상을 추리와 논리적 과정을 통해 추론하게 하는 인지적 도구이다. 본 논문은 퍼스의 다이어그램적 추론의 두 가지 방법인 귀결적 추론과 정리적 추론의 개념을 문학텍스트 분석에 적용하여 알레고리적 해석을 시도하고, 문학적 소통의 가능성을 고찰하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위하여 알레고리가 갖는 표현모드와 상징모드의 수사학적 방법을 다이어그램의재현 시스템과 연관하여 논의한다. 이 같은 이론적 논의를 바탕으로 김연수 작품의 알레고리적 해석을 통하여 알레고리 형식의 쓰기와 읽기의 실천이 대화적 상호작용을매개로 한 기호과정으로서의 소통 행위임을 밝힌다.
Peirce’s diagram as system of representation is a cognitive instrument for reasoning by way of inference and logical analysis of the represented object. The paper aims to examine the possibility of literary communication through allegorical interpretation, applying two diagrammatic reasonings, namely, a corollarial reasoning and a theorematic reasoning, to literary text analysis. For this reason, I discuss the rhetoric of allegory in two modes, expressive and symbolic, with reference to the representation system of diagram. Based on the theoretical discussion, allegorical interpretation of Kim Yeonsu’s work will be analyzed. In this way, the paper shows that the practice of reading and writing in a form of allegory is understood as a communicative activity of semiosis by means of dialogical interaction.
