홍대용의 『乾浄衕會友錄』과 『乾浄筆譚』은 18세기 동아시아가 낳은 奇 書이다. 필자는 이 책들이 前近代 조선과 중국의 교류에 관한 중요한 기록일 뿐만 아니라 동시대 조선, 중국 그리고 일본의 정신적 위치를 알 수 있는 중요한 사료로 본다. 확실히 『乾浄衕會友錄』의 등장은 조선에서 역사적인 일대 사건이었다. 그러나 현재까지 『乾浄衕會友錄』의 텍스트연구는거의 이루어지지 않았는데, 그것은 아마도 이 책이 현존하지 않는 것으로간주되었기 때문일 것이다. 필자는 최근 숭실대학교 기독교박물관에서 사료조사를 한 결과 『乾浄衕 會友錄』 1책을 발견했다. 이번에 발견된 것은 전 3책 중 1책에 불과하지만, 홍대용 본인의 자필본 즉 개인소장본으로써 개정판 『乾浄筆譚』의 기초가되고 20세기에 『乾浄衕筆談』이 편찬되었을 때에도 그 토대가 되었음은 의심할 여지가 없다. 본고는 『乾浄衕會友錄』, 『乾浄筆譚』, 『乾浄衕筆談』 세 자료의 텍스트연구를 중심으로 한다. 결론적으로 말하자면, 『乾浄衕會友錄』은 홍대용의개인소장본 秘本으로 세상에 나왔다. 『乾浄筆譚』은 『乾浄衕會友錄』의 개정판으로 홍대용이 정본으로 공개할 것을 전제로 다시 편찬한 것이었다. 한편, 『乾浄衕筆談』은 겨우 1939년에 출현한 자료에 불과하며 현재로서는홍대용 자신이 이 서명을 붙였다는 증거도 찾을 수 없다. 확실히 『乾浄衕 筆談』은 『乾浄筆譚』에 비교하면 내용은 많지만 매우 엉성하며, 『乾浄衕會 友錄』을 기초로 편찬되기는 했지만 홍대용의 의도와 전혀 다른 것이 되었음이 명백하다. 본고에서는 이상과 같은 내용을 텍스트에 의거해서 서술하였다. 그리고『乾浄衕會友錄』과 『乾浄筆譚』, 『乾浄衕筆談』에서 개변된 내용 중 일부를소개하고 마지막으로 홍대용이 『乾浄衕會友錄』이라는 서명을 왜 『乾浄筆 譚』으로 바꾸었는가 하는 문제도 살펴보았다.
The works of Hong Daeyong(洪大容), Ganjeongdonghoeurok(乾淨衕會友 錄)and Ganjeongpildam(乾淨筆談) are curious books in East Asia the 18th century. They are very important historical documets on the pre-modern exchange of Joseon and China moreover they show us the situation of Joseon, China and Japan. Surely the appearance of Ganjeongdonghoeurok is a big event in Joseon. However until now anyone has not studied on the text of it. Because people think the book was not existing. Recently I discovered one volume of Ganjeongdonghoeurok in the Korean Christian Museum of Sungsil university. It is only one volume of three volume, but it is an autograph copy of Hong Daeyong. It must be base for Ganjeongpildam(乾淨 筆談) and Ganjeongdongpildam(乾淨衕筆談). This paper examine the text of three books, Ganjeongdonghoeurok, Ganjeongpildam and Ganjeongdongpildam. To conclude, Ganjeongdonghoeurok was a private collection of Hong Daeyong. And Ganjeongpildam which was for public was revision of Ganjeongdonghoeurok, But Ganjeongdongpildam was published in 1939 and it is unclear that Hong Daeyong gave a title to it. Ganjeongdongpildam was added more things, however it was carelessly compiled. It is sure it deviated from his original intention. And this paper examie the reason of changing the title, from Ganjeongdonghoeurok to Ganjeongpildam.
