본 연구는 학습 지향적인 평가가 주목받고 있는 현재 교육 평가의 흐름 속에서 온라인 영어학습자들의 효과적인 영 어 학습을 지원하기 위한 컴퓨터 기반 진단평가를 개발, 시행하고 그 결과에 근거하여 학생 개인별 장단점에 관한 진단적 피 드백을 제공하는 방법과 절차에 관한 것이다. 그 구체적인 방법과 절차는 다음 내용을 포함한다. 첫째, 5개 언어 영역(듣 기, 읽기, 쓰기, 문법, 어휘)의 진단평가를 개발하기 위해 영역별로 학습자가 꼭 성취해야 할 세부능력(subskills) 리스트를 정 하였다. 둘째, 각 시험 문항은 정해진 세부능력을 측정할 수 있도록 개발되고 한 세부능력 당 3개 또는 5개의 문항을 개발 하여 그 중 2/3, 3/5 이상을 맞힐 경우 해당 능력을 달성(pass)한 것으로 하였다. 셋째, 개발된 시험은 온라인 평가 시스템에 탑재되어 서울 지역 한 사이버대학교 재학생 479명을 대상으로 실시되었다. 넷째, 시험 결과에 근거하여 개별 수험자에게 각 세부능력의 달성 여부, 전반적인 영어 학습 전략, 그리고 부족한 능력을 보완하기 위해 적합한 과목 추천 등의 내용을 담은 피드백을 제공하였다. 마지막으로, 영어 진단평가와 개인별로 제공된 피드백에 관한 응시자들의 만족도를 조사하고 그 결과 를 분석하여 시사점을 논의하였다.
This study attempted to develop computer-based English diagnostic tests in five language skill areas, (i.e., listening, reading, writing, grammar and vocabulary), to administer the tests to English learners of an online university in Korea, and to provide each participant with diagnostic feedback on his/her strengths and weaknesses based on the results. The detailed procedure and output of the study are as follows. First, a list of language subskills or achievement standards was created for each language skill area based on a detailed analysis of the English curriculum of the university and experts’ discussions. Next, based on the test specification prepared, test items were developed to measure the target subskills. Third, the developed test items were uploaded to an online test system and administered to those who enrolled in English courses offered in the 2nd semester of 2016. Fifth, each test taker’s performance on the test was scored and analyzed in order to diagnose his/ her strengths and weaknesses in terms of the subskills of each language skill. Sixth, each test taker was provided with detailed feedback on their strengths and weaknesses, regarding not only which subskills they have achieved and not achieved, but also which courses they should take to supplement their weaknesses. Lastly, a questionnaire was created and administered in order to investigate the participants’ satisfaction levels and opinions on the diagnostic tests and the individual feedback that they received. The collected opinions will be reflected in future revisions of the tests.
