Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) has been emphasized when teaching English in Korean education field. NESTs'(Native English Speaking Teachers) classes, therefore, have been popular and analyzed and compared to those of NNESTs (Non-native English Speaking Teachers). The present study is conducted in order to find out whether students' perception of NESTs and NNESTs' classes are different and significantly correlated with students' English proficiency and emotional factors. With the subjects of 135 students, a questionnaire survey is conducted and its results indicate that students' emotional factors such as confidence in English and desire to study and English proficiency have a significant correlation to the perception of NESTs and their class satisfaction. However, only students' desire to study is found correlated to satisfaction with NNESTs even though students feel satisfied with both NESTs and NNESTs including their teaching. In addition, there is a significant difference in perception of NESTs and NNESTs. It is that students feel more comfortable and intimate with NNESTs and they prepare more classroom activities including preview and review for NNESTs' class. In sum, it is essential to know students' perception of class and teachers who are in charge of class in order to design and reconstruct better curriculum including a teaching plan. The outcomes of this paper can be utilized for teachers who are dedicated to teaching a foreign language.
중등 교육 현장에서 영어교육을 담당하고 있는 교사는 원어민 교사(Native English Speaking Teachers)와 비원어민 교사(Non-native English Speaking Teachers)이다. 본 연구는 원어민 교사와 비원어민 교사의 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식을 알아보기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 특히, 학생들의 영어 능숙도 및 정서적 요인과 교사에 대한 인식 간에 유의미한 상관관계가 있는지 살펴보았다. 135명의 학생을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시한 결과, 영어 능숙도 및 영어에 대한 자신감, 학습 욕구와 같은 정서적 요인은 원어민 교사에 대한 인식 및 수업 만족도와 유의미한 상관관계가 있음이 밝혀졌다. 학생들은 원어민 교사와 비원어민 교사 모두에게 유의미한 수준에서 만족감을 느끼기는 하지만 원어민교사보다 비원어민교사에게 보다 편안하고 친밀한 감정을 느끼고 비원어민 교사의 수업에 대해 예습, 복습 활동을 더욱 충실히 하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 영어 능숙도가 낮고, 영어에 대한 자신감, 학습 욕구가 낮은 학생일수록 원어민 교사의 수업에 대한 인식은 부정적이었다. 수업을 담당하는 교사와 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식을 고려하여 커리큘럼을 디자인하고 구성한다면 수업의 만족도와 효과가 더욱 향상될 것으로 기대한다.
