Overtaking time is one of the key parameters in operational planning for the mixed train operation. Mixed train operation in urban railway is increasing day by day, such as Seoul Metro Ling 9 and Airport Railroad. We propose simulation and closed equation based method to calculate the overtaking time. We compared two methods to conduct a case study on Seoul Metro Ling 9. In overtaking with express train pass(Case 1), there is no significant difference in two methods. However, we found that the difference was about 30s in overtaking with express train stop(Case 2).
