1959年9月26日に日本を襲った伊勢湾台風は、愛知･三重を中心に5000人以上の死者･行方不明者を記録した。日本における戦後最悪の台風災害である。本研究は、この伊勢湾台風の周年報道について全国紙と地方紙の比較検討を行い、伊勢湾台風が日本社会でどのような位置を占めてきたかを明らかにするものである。検討の対象は、全国紙である『東京朝日』とその地域版の『名古屋朝日』、および地方紙の『中日新聞』である。『東京朝日』が伊勢湾台風を大きく報じたのは発災1周年のみだった。一方、同じ新聞社でありながら『名古屋朝日』は独自の紙面構成で伊勢湾台風の周年報道を展開している。また、最も強力だったのは『中日新聞』であり、在名古屋新聞社が9月26日を伊勢湾台風の記念日として意味付けていたことがわかる。このような全国紙と在名古屋新聞社の差異は、社会の集合的な認識にかかわる問題である。9月26日を伊勢湾台風の記念日として位置付け、周年報道を行う在名古屋新聞社の読者には、毎年伊勢湾台風の集合的な想起が促されるのに対し、全国紙の読者はそのような機会を得ることができない。このことから、伊勢湾台風の集合的記憶がローカルな枠に押しとどめられたことが指摘できる。
The Ise Bay Typhoon, which struck the Japan on Sep 26 of 1959, caused more than 5,000 deaths and missing persons, mainly in Aichi and Mie prefecture. It was the worst typhoon disaster in Japan, after the World War Ⅱ. This study examines the anniversary journalism of the Ise Bay Typhoon, by comparing the national newspaper (Tokyo Asahi Shinbun) and the local newspapers (Nagoya Asahi Shinbun and Chunichi Shinbun), to reveal the awareness of the Typhoon in Japan. This study revealed that, on the one hand, Tokyo Asahi Shinbun has reported on the Ise Bay Typhoon greatly only on the first anniversary of this calamity. On the other hand, despite being the same newspaper company, Nagoya Asahi Shinbun has been reporting the Ise Bay Typhoon every year since 1959, by providing an original composition. Further, Chunichi Shinbun which is published by Nagoya based Newspaper Company made a profound impact. These local newspapers recognized September 26th as commemoration day of the Ise Bay Typhoon. Difference between the national newspaper and local newspapers related to the collective recognition of society. The reader of the local newspapers is able to get the collective recall of the Ise Bay Typhon every year. However, the reader of the national newspaper does not have such opportunities. Thus, the collective memory of the Ise Bay Typhoon remained as a local memory.
